Hi guys, I need some opinions

The dealer called me to come in and have a Guidepoint
tracking antitheft device activated. Do you think it's a good idea to have it done for the tC?

    Moved to Scion tC Discussion

Is that something like Lojack? If so, it might be a good idea to keep an electronic collar on your car incase it's stolen.
Yeap it's like a Lojack thing...it help prevent a car from being stolen. It's suck, I live in a city where there are a lot of car's theft around.
is this free. if so why not? lol everything is better so long as money isn't involved.
lol.. i got Lojack on mines.. either they find the car.. or you get money in your pocket if they don't..and they pay off your car...

well.. thats what mines does.. but i haven't heard a tC being broken into here in my city yet. lol
It must be a cost to it...nothing is free. They said It's included in the package when I bought my tC...I just need to get it install.

city of stockton...worse criminal and car's theft, LiLee but it gets better now though because bad guys start moving to the east coast lol j/k.
hahah...i"ll kick some asses if they try with my baby.. if you care that much about your car you should get it.... i mean.. the tC is my first car.. i got it... and well.. with the time and hard work imma put into it... i guess i'm happy i have it. lol
tC's are actually pretty darn hard to steal, unless you have hours with the car and many tools. Toyota has built many security features into the car.

*Transponder in key fob- No Key no start

*Non removable key tumbler- it's actually riveted on the column so unless you take the steering column out you can't get a drill at it.

So unless somebody steals your keys or come an tow it away I think your pretty safe but like others have said, if it's a free service...what the hell...whay not get it.

well i live in a bad area myself very bad haha but nothing has happen to my car yet had it for almost 3 years

that does sound pretty hard to steal..
it's nice to know your car is able to track if it goes missing *smiles.
My motto is, if someone wants something bad enough, they will find a way to get it. You can take all the precautions to try and prevent it from happening, but eventually someone somewhere will be the unfortunate who will feel these effects. I agree that Toyota has some great built in security features that will minimize the chances but as technology advances, there are always those individuals who feel the need to out smart it.

Guidepoint is just like Lojack and is quite expensive. You may want to read the fine print before you commit to anything. The dealership where I used to work so these units and they are worth the money incase you should ever need it. One benefit of getting one of these is that you will recieve a discount from your insurance company. It is pretty nice discount and is much more than if you just have an alarm. The only downside to all of thisis if someone is smart enough to figure out how to steal the car, they will most likely already have it stripped before it is recovered. Also too many times smarts thieves will know to look to see if the car is equipted with a type of recovery system and they can remove it and eliminate that signal. Like I said it would only be a professional who would be able to accomplish this. It is unfortunate that we have to take these steps to protect our property form those who cannot respect that but in the world we are living in, we must do everything we can!
guys, I got it install today and yes, it's free...happy happy and no more worries about my car parked at my boss's house anymore. I park my car at his house and carpool with him to work every days because I work like 1hr and 30 minutes from home/I'm trying to save some gas and kinda watch out with the tC millage too lol...By the time I got off and back to my car, it's dark and late . So, I am giving that much love to my tC by having that thing installed.

thanks guys, for all the opinions and the help on guidpoint...me preciated much and again domo arigatoo lol.

wow.. thats sweet that you got it for free. o.o

Actually, you're right. Nothing is free. I think you already paid for it when you bought the car. Just like you can pay for LoJack in the paperwork when signing for your car.

Not to mention its not so much an anti-theft device, as it is a "get your car back after its stolen" device.
I think I did paid already when I sign the paper work. I asked the financial guy again and he said he didn't charge me on that. so cool if that's true

Then he lied to you. Trust me I used to work at a dealership and nothing is free. You paid for it and it was prolly close to if not more than $1000. The sad part is that by doing this that dealership broke the Scion Compliance. Everything is supossed to be disclosed when purchasing a new Scion. If they don't follow the regulations then that dealership can lose their license to sell Scions. If it was a used Scion then it is fair game!
aww man what a lair, shall I go smack him now? lol j/k...well its done, it's ok If I did paid for it already...I'm happy that I have something now and it does help stop me from worries about my car when i'm off to work.
The point is if you are happy. If you are happy with your payment and are happy to have the guidepoint, then there is no reason to get mad. But if you think your payment is a little high and do not see the need for guidepoint, then I would raise hell. In the future realize that the dealership will charge you double the cost to get these types of units than it would have cost you to do it on your own. The only advantages of doing it through the dealership is they will warranty it and you get to finance it into the loan that way you do not have to pay out of pocket for it. But realize that by financing it you are going to end up spending ten times the amount and a store that specializes in alarms and stuff would warranty it as well. In my opinion it just is not worth it. The only thing I ever want from a dealer is the ca and GAP insurance that is it!
I probably will get upset if I have to pay more but he said the dealership don't charge on getting a guidepoint anymore and it doesn't added to the loan that's why I agree to get it installed...otherwise, I would just get something cheaper and do it on my own. oh well then, everything is done and nothing I could do about
