TRD Parts and Warranty

I personally think TRD parts are a waste of money and the performance that they give is often mediocre at best. Besides the supercharger, everything else is overpriced. I believe newbies buy these parts because they dont know about car parts or warranties. They also think that the parts are Toyota parts, when in fact THEY ARE NOT TOYOTA PARTS. They affect the warranty of the car just as any other part. There is a thread on warranty if you dont know how that works.

Here is the warranty straight from the TRD website...
    http://www.trdusa.com/warranty.cfm

It says AFTERMARKET PARTS and ARE NOT GENUINE TOYOTA PARTS.

Hopefully people read this and don't buy the parts for the wrong reaons. If you like the product and the performance then buy all means dont let anyone talk you out of buying them. They quality parts, but in my opinion overpriced and mediocre in performance. Its a label brand with much misunderstanding among people who are new to tuning...

    Opinions?
I agree they are over priced as f*ck...and allot of the times dont match other after market companies on performance. But they do work, they do tend to look nice and if you are trying to do in house modifying only....TRD is a great way to show your support for the brand of car you bought.

Im with Guru...if you like the stuff get it and feel proud. If you are more towards every last ounce of power gain then go else where. But feel confident TRD is a good product. With the exception of sway bars, lol...Ive heard a few Matrix owners have broken theirs, lol...not to frieghten anyone who has the TRD sway bar (cause I have it too cause I got it at a good price).
No doubt if you feel it looks, sounds better or is a better quality then by all means buy it. I just wanted to clarify the WARRANTY and AFTERMARKET issues. So many people think that these are toyota parts and that it is impossible to void your warranty work, etc but its not true. I am sure if you got the stuff installed at the dealer that they would take care of you but if you installed TRD springs yourself and your suspension went to hell then they would not fix the suspension, regardless of whether the springs were TRD or Tein or Goldline or custom built spinrgs (no likely, lol).

Im sure if there was a suspension problem and the dealer put the parts on they would take care of you. But TRD parts are only one year warranty (AS WITH THE SUPERCHARGER). After that they dont owe you anything. Hardly anything goes wrong in the first year anyways. This is another reason why the supercharger from TRD is misunderstood. you can just run rediculous boost and add all of these other parts. If you leave only the supercharger in then Im sure the dealer will take care of you... But if you add a pulley or anything that is not included in the supercharger then toyota will decline warranty work...

It is very hard to argue TRD quality. It is very good, but there are also some great aftermarket companies, Tein, GReddy, Aem, K&N, Axis, Kaminari, etc. These companies work hard on their products too. They also build individual parts for the tC and have warranties for their parts too.

While it's true that I don't think TRD parts are worth it, I am trying to post this so that people understand about the warranties and aftermarket issues of them.

So in conclusion, they ARE NOT Genuine Toyota parts, have a ONE YEAR WARRANTY, and any improper installation will result in Toyota/Scion REFUSING WARRANTY WORK. Also so cant argue performance but if you think that they look, sound better, or are made of better quality then buy all means pay the extra money for the TRD brand...
uhm i want the LED interior illumination from trdsparks.com which i didnt buy when i got my vehicle... so if i install it myself and week later it broke.. no warranty?
actually, some of the TRD parts are not really made by TRD, to give you guys an example, some TRD wheels are made by Racing Hart, the TRD lowering springs are made by Eibach, the TRD intakes are made by AEM. TRD is not trying to push their parts to the limit, what i mean is that they are playing safe for the warranty and i think that is also the reason why TRD parts are a little bit more expensive than some aftermarket parts. I love TRD parts but hey this is scion, its all about personalization. The only TRD part that i am interested is the lowering spring w/c is good because i dont have any plan to replace my stock shock, if i blew my shock, it will still be covered w/ my warranty.

it depends, if they can prove it that you didnt installed it properly then it wont be covered by the warranty. They cant just void the warranty because you installed it by yourself. Remember we have a law for that. And, if your dealer will gona examine your car, make sure you're there because who knows they might gona do something else.
hmm good to know, i thought and know some people that thought it was toyota parts, thanks for clearing it up

hey guitarguru you should smoke out your taillights, would look badass
i think i will smoke them when I have some time. I used VHT niteshades on my old flint mica but it was really really dark... This time around on the superwhite I plan on keeping the reverse clear and smoking a little bit so that you can still see the red.

but back to topic. You should be fine with the lights because trdsparks.com offers a one year warranty. However if you mess something up during install then that wont be covered under warranty. Also I would go with LED bars for upfront and single leds wherever else you want light. It should cost no more than $50 for the whole car and you can get more than just blue and amber. Also LEDs run less power.

Also, like it has been pointed out TRD parts are often not made by TRD. That is another reason why they are expensive. Usually when you buy TRD you just buy the name...
i shoulda got the trd exhaust when i first bought the car.. that's my only regret

If it were installed properly then it will be covered. If the part is defective then you won't have a problem.

All parts have a 1 year warranty if installed by you. If they are installed by a dealer then theay are covered under the factory warranty. This includes TRD parts.

For the record TRD does not make any parts what so ever. They pay for the R&D and that's all. Everyone should already know this.

From the same link guru has above.

TRD SPort Parts installed by a Dealer

"TRD sport parts are warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of installation or the balance of the new car warranty in force at the date of installation, which ever is great, when installed by an authorized Toyota or Scion dealer. Superchargers carry the same warranty, but the coverage is 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of installation or the balance of the new car warranty in force at the time of installation. Wear through use of brake pads and clutches are not covered"

I'm not getting into this thread anymore than that. Believe what you want.

right, i been trying to tell peaple that and they wont beleave me lol.
Just to add to both sides of the playing field here. Not all parts are covered. The TRD sport parts are covered but TRD japan only parts have no warranty and are considered to be aftermarket. SO while I don't totally agree with guru he's not totally wrong either.

    Just to inform:

If the TRD Supercharger is installed by a toyota dealer then the warranty is for the remainder of your powertrain warranty. That also includes extended warranties.
    ^true that...
