tC RS10.0 Off Centered Headlights and Bumper/Fender Gap

    Hey everyone!

So I just recently purchased a Scion tC Release Series 10.0, and being extremely OCD, I take walks around the car after every drive to make sure everything is alright. However, I seemed to have missed one small, but very annoying issue after buying the car. There seems to be a wider gap where the bumper meets the passenger side fender as compared to the driver side. It's something super small and almost only noticeable if your really looking for it, but do any of you guys have something similar? Also, after finding this, I also tried to put my hand under the hood where the headlight is and it seems like the passenger side headlight was installed a few inches lower than the right. To clarify, I was able to stick most of my fingers under the hood, right above the passenger headlight while I could only fit just the tips of my fingers under the hood on the driver side headlight. Again, its not noticeable at all unless you do this, but again do anyone know why this is or if it was just a production error as this car was being made?

    Thanks!

no toyota was not that lazy when they assembled the car. Chances are the car was in an accident and the body shop tried to fix the car with aftermarket ill-fitting parts. Or someone had a headlight break and they didn't put the headlight back in properly. You should take pictures of this gap and post them here so we can see exactly what you're describing. No one has this problem with any of the tC's, as original owners we can tell you that's not normal, but post the pics up, we will be able to tell what parts are original and which ones are not.
Hmm, interesting, I bought this car off of the lot, completely new so I doubt there was any accidents. I also made sure with the Scion dealership that I was the first owner. I will post pics in the morning!
It doesn't sound right. What I would Recommend is you stop by any Toyota/Scion Dealer
and ask they pop the hood of any of the new tCs on the lot.

It you see a Problem, then make a Appointment for Warranty Service.

I went ahead and did that, they said that, after looking under my front bumper, that the gap was caused by me going over a curb when I was parking and when I backed up, it pulled the bumper out of place. They recommend me go to a body shop, however, that'll require a bunch of unnecessary steps and a possible new bumper. Just too much of a hassle for something this small.
By now, I think I am just going to try to live with it, its something that is so small that others would not know its their. I only notice it because I know about it and it just sticks out to me, however, I had some of my family members look at it and they don't think its really worth going through the hassle of fixing it. If more problems come from this, I will get it completely fixed, but for now, the car looks 99.9% great, just this little blemish!

Either way, thanks you guys for the tips and help!
why haven't you posted the pics up? See on the internet we go by a saying "if there are no pics, it never happened". So why can't you post the pics up?

Oh sorry, I got really busy these few days so here they are!
Here is the left, passenger side. This is the side that has the issue.

Here is the right, driver side that has no issue for comparison.

yup now that you explained that you had hit a curb, or something.. What you're seeing is the plastic bumper cover (that's all it is, big plastic cover) being pushed out of it's clips. A body shop could pop that back into place in 5 minutes. that's if the retainer clips underneath aren't broken. all it does it click into place when it's working correctly. Try taking your hand and pushing slowly, gently on the front of the bumper cover beneath the headlights. Pushing inward..you might hear a "click" and then it's aligned properly.

The dealer saying to go to a body shop was correct, because they're not in the body repair business.

Hmm, ya I tried pushing it and messing with it, it will "click" in, however, after a short drive, the vibration just undoes it. It opens back up again. I am starting to think that the clips inside has been unfortunately broken. In the event of this, however, would I need a whole new bumper?

    Again thanks for the help!
nope you don't need a new bumper cover. There are no clips on that piece of plastic (big piece). The clips behind it are $45 for the one side, you only need the one side because the other is holding its side perfectly. You should try to look at some google images of scion tC bumper covers. It'll give you more knowledge of what is underneath the cover (not much at all to be honest). You'll say.. "IS THAT ALL THERE IS TO THIS COVER!!??" yup.

and yeah you tried to massage it back in and it won't hold. So we now know (and thanks for the pictures, a lot better than trying to describe it all day) ok so we know now that the retainer holder/clip called a side support is broken. $45 for the part, and if you paid labor.. try $40 at the most! at a body shop. that's it. Simple.
oh and to add, the bumper cover is held by the side supports, the plastic has a lip that clips into that holder. So the holder is the "clip".. not the plastic cover. like I said, google some images and you'll see..
Perfect! I think I might actually just head to a body shop when I have the time and see how much it'll cost for everything! Thank you!
hey you're welcome! and dont be surprised that the body shop tells you "we won't know what's broken until we take the cover off". They're not lying, they don't have xray vision! lol.. glad it's a cheap fix!
oh and also.. love that color on your car. Toyota did an awesome job on your paint!
Ya, hopefully it is as cheap as you say it is aha. Maybe tomorrow since I have the time, I'll find a body shop to take a look at it. And I agree! The red on the car looks amazing! Thanks!
    Update!

So I took it in, and the great people at this local body shop took a look at it and decided it could be easily fixed and decided to do it for free! So everything is all fixed!

Thanks for all the help guys!

see? that's awesome! Yeah I didn't think it would cost much to fix that. What did they do, just pop it back in? Sounds like it. And look at that, if you had not asked, you'd be living with that ugly gap forever! good news! glad it's all fixed
