If it died like all of them did, it's really not worth it to repair it. You would have to cut it all apart, then try to glue it back together after it's all cut. I went with a new one, since repairing the old one would only give you 6 LED's in the middle, the rest empty. I enjoy the look of the aftermarket where it lights up across the entire light.
I don't want to say you couldn't repair the other, it is easier to get a new one, and all the lights illuminate.
to replace the 3rd brake light, you have to remove the side trim, top trim of the hatch, then remove the bottom trim (the one with the handle, darker gray). From there, you undo the power release button, then you can access the third brake light. There is a DIY on here if not, I know the other tC forums had it.
