Stop the Spam

As many of you have noticed, in the last couple of months as traffic here has slowed, spam has taken off. The spam is annoying, unnecessary and not useful. Over at NASIOC they have a system in place where for some subforums you cannot post until you have 3 legitimate replies to other threads. This can effectively cut down on spam posts from drive-by spammers. I personally like the idea of making it harder for the spammers to spam the site. The only downside I see is new people coming by wanting to join and say something having to get their post count up before they can post. However, on NASIOC there are some subforums you can post in right away. Also, it should curb those (non-spam) drive by posts, you know the ones where they ask a question, get an answer, and leave just as quick as they came. Especially since most have been answered numerous times.

Lets here some thoughts on a system similar to that and hopefully SqMK sees this and could have input on the feasibility of implementing such a system.
I think implementing that kind of system would be great. Most of the people who join just to make a thread don't come back anyway.

I completely agree! NO MORE DRIVE BY POSTINGS. This is ridiculous. You can tell it's the same spam over and over. Even the "please and thank you", is obvious. SQMK is the moderator, and I hope he would implement this. So you have my vote!

EDIT: well I think that people have to go through a waiting period before they can post, and then have to have at least three replies before they can post anything else. The spammers are just posting the same day and then leaving. I really don't know what profit/benefit they get out of doing that. It's kind of strange.
Yeah the spam has gotten out of hand. Honestly I'd like to be an admin and I'd vote for a few other elder users that are still around to be admins as well since none of the current ones are ever around anymore. That way the spam could be removed quicker. But that still won't solve the larger problem, would still be a start though.

I don't even own my tC anymore but this has been such a great forum in the past I'm so used to coming here and I definitely don't have any problem helping out where I can. I just don't want to see it going down this way.

I Totally Agree with Everyone. The Spam here is Out of Hand.
I have seen More Spam here in the few months I've been here than my Entire 9 years on SL.

I also noticed a lack on Admins and Mods here. I had to email SqMK several times. I remember Reporting a Masochism & Bondage site from Yugoslavia. They even posted nude pictures in the Gallery.

Somedays, I see more Spam than genuine Posts. They also Reduced the Mods at SL just like all the Scion sites but still have better Firewall and Blocks in place.
Club xB also had very little Spam.

I believe this is at the Server/System Level. Most spammers use 'bots' to probe sites.. An example was a month ago, when a Moving service from India posted 8 messages here. You can be sure they never heard of CStC.
But, their 'bots found a soft target here with Open Borders.

I missed that one Yugoslavian post you're referring to. But all the "Movers in Bangladesh" and "Car Electronics" spam posts are still going strong. If this site has any chance of survival, admin privileges need to be given to some active members at the very least. But I agree its most likely bots doing the spamming.

I couldn't agree more, the old regular mods are long gone. And some newer mods would be good to have! 100% agree! The spammers/bots/trolls are trying to take over. I mean it's really pointless when ya think about it. What's the point of posting this junk, it's not like anyone is going to go for whatever they're selling.

We really don't want our site, which is an excellent site, to get taken over by spam and people asking the same questions over and over! It's probably the bots that post the same questions, when they get a reply, the spam comes in under a different name.
You know I really just wish people would come back and update their questions with their solution. Let's stop the spam posts, and make Club Scion tC great again!

I would love some active members to become mods. It would greatly reduce the the attacks of bots promoting moving companys
Yes the spam is ridiculous. I report every spam post I can and sometimes it does seem to stop. I believe some of us should be made mods to help the Admin guys jobs much easier. Lessen their load.

I'm not even sure any of the old mods are still around though. I haven't seen SqMK in a long while either.

But I always report the spam as well. See my pretty narc badge haha but I'm curious who is deleting the posts. I know mods could be doing that without posting but it would be nice if the mods were still active members or at least made their presence known somewhat.
I think sqmk comes back when he can, he was working on writing up some new code for CSTC v2.0. But would be nice if some of us were mods in the meantime to get rid of the spam/trolling. No argument there!
Is there a petition we can make, sign, and send to him haha

SqMK, if you see this, chime in please

I report it as well. It is irritating to try to read between the spam. You have my vote as an Admin!! How do we get the attention of the current admins?

FYI, I have been in contact with SqMK the Administrator via Private Message for a couple of months so he can Delete the Spam:

I finally Earn my pretty Narc Badge.
It appears to me that all the Mods have left, so SqMK is by himself.

If anyone wants to Contact him or Volunteer as Mod, you can Propose that Offer to him here:

    https://clubsciontc.com/users/sqmk/

I had been in contact with him several months ago when CStC 2.0 was being talked about but nothing recently.

I've always just used the report button but a PM might be in order. No need for him to have to do all the work himself especially when there are still people here who frequent the forums daily and can hopefully catch some of the spam a little faster.

But I agree with camismacho haha
