My question is are the lighting for the gauges actually what is amber or are they white and the typing on the gauge face is what is amber?
I had a Ford Ranger once where the latter was true and I was able to take the faces off, sand the back of them to remove the coloring then leave some clear and color other the way I wanted for a lot better look. Wondering if anyone knows before I ether take stuff apart or spend the money to get a spare set of gauges to try on (or try a gauge face kit from ebay).
you had it correct on your first thought.. It's amber lighting. The silver gauges have always been tough to see during the day. Washed out is a good term. I haven't looked but I wonder if anyone has new faces for the gauges. Black with white lettering would be very easy to read during the day/cloudy, etc. At night the amber lighting takes over.
