New to the forum! Hey guys, just got a tC about two months ago and plan on keeping it a while! I want to be more active in the forums and will start with posting with this. I have a few cracks in the top pillars of the car (if thats what its called?). It appears to be like deep bondo cracks, but it occurs on both sides of the car. Any idea what this is? Have you seen this on your car before?

bondo cracks at the top of the pillars is called the frame/chassis of a unibody car. Why would any of us have seen that before?! Toyota doesn't use bondo on their cars, ever! Sounds like someone got into a severe accident and they tried to cover it up. You might want to get a VIN history on the car, I bet it was totaled before.

edit.. wait.. where is this crack? take a bigger picture of the area.. I have a thought but will wait til you post a bigger picture (Zoomed out).

Yes, more pics, bottom pic almost looks like the bumper?
Oopps, where's my manners, Welcome to the club.
any updates? replies are good here..
Sorry! Busy week with work and hosting a few grad parties.

Ill try to get a wider picture of it in the morning. Its strange because its not exactly the consistency of bondo. Im looking to repair those cracks and get this car looking nice. (: To make things a little more clear, these cracks are on the top of the car, right next to the sunroof.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum! Does anyone use any apps to make this easier to check?

I hope I posted this in the correct sub too 😜
Ok here's a little wider picture of that crack

hey andy.. thanks for the better picture, that is odd, definitely! I think your best plan is to take it to a couple of body shops to get their opinion on what's going on. We can guess all day long online but it'll take someone in person "hands-on" type thing to figure it out.

To find out if it is bondo, take a magnet to that area, if it's bondo it won't stick, if it's metal it will. I know for a fact that I've used a magnet in that area before.. was a magnet on the back of a flashlight I put it there to hold it.

but yeah get it to a body shop and ask their opinion, let us know what they say..
Will do. I tested the area with a medium strength magnet and it stuck but you can definitely tell something is in the way.
Ill go ahead an take it to a body shop and follow up with their answer 😎
Well I took it in to the local Honda dealership body shop (its close to me) and the estimater said the material is definitely body filler. It was a shotty job from probably a cheap shop and its cracking because it was put on too thick. Its an expensive repair because they need to pull up all the fill in case its all done badly then make the repair again properly.

Being a college grad going back to master, Im not about to throw that amount of dough at this car. I have some experience in body work and figure why not give this a go 😎 I dont plan to pull up all of the repair but I'll try to fix the crack and I guess show how it goes on here in case anyone finds themself in a similar situation.
If you have some experience then I would jump in and fix it. But take it all out and see what you are working with. Get it right so it is not an issue anymore. If you sell it in the future you don't want anyone low balling you over it. The fact that you are willing to tackle it tells me you can do it!!!
