Ok my friend last week said it is possible to drift in a auto tranny and i laughed at him...i told him it would just be power turning if that...now thinking about it could it be possible?
yeah figured so dont even know how he could think it was possible
N the right conditions and if you try you can.
I did one rainy day , it was a few seconds / tiny but it happened.
lol didnt think about that yeah that would be the only way and if u pulled the parking brake super hard
    not possible.
possible on snow when you throw the car sideways
    and pull the E-brake
a TRUE drift around a long corner on DRY pavement requires an awd/rwd car and a manual tranny.

So True, But we can All dream with our FWD cars
well i still think that you can drift in an auto car... why cant you? i dont understand why you NEED manual....

i can take my camaro roll and about 45 and turn sharp hit the gas, lett off a bit and catch the counter steer. slide right around a corner... thats not drifting?

If that were true, then wouldn't all the ams and pro's be using auto's? I think the aspect of having the manual gives you absolute control over the car's speed, rpms, amount of power transferring to the pavement....etc. To my understanding, drifting is a sport, where as skidding around a corner.... is skidding around a corner, (which all cars are capable of). Drifting is all about the style and control of the car while you drive it sideways around a track......

    No, not drifting.

it's just as a bad idea as trying to race an auto at all.

    and why is that?

YES you can drift in an auto.
you can skid around a corner in a manual just as you can in an auto. i dont understand why the difference between manual and auto considering drifting. so if my camaro was a manual it would be drifting but since its an auto is skidding?

that makes absolutely no sense at all.

i will agree that drifting in a manual is easier. but thats it. you CAN drift, whether your car is auto or manual transmission.

oh and obviously this isnt just letting off the gas and skidding.

WHAT I MEANT WAS: ill take you through the whole process.

driving towards the turn, probably about 45 is what im comfortable at. enter the turn and turn the wheel more sharply and let off the gas to let the back end come around. when i feel it coming around ill catch the counter steer and get back on throttle right through the corner.

im pretty sure that counts as a drift. if it doesnt i dont know what does.

Auto OR Manual....if you can make it around a track like an am or a pro...then i'll call it drifting. But i can't say the same when you're skidding around a single corner. It's just not the same thing to me.

ok, that makes sense. guess i didnt mean that as in, because i could get a good slide going around a corner that i was a pro or something. i was just trying to say that you CAN drift with an auto. i mean im sure if this was on a course i MIGHT be able to. idk. never been to a track. this is usually on a backroad or something....
