I held with a 1.8T Golf, I/E, from 35 roll up to 120 on his back bumper overlapped by a foot. Funny to see his friend's expression when he looked over and saw me hanging with him.

Try launching tCs at around 2000-2300 rpm to get maximum ground contact without spinning tires. As soon as the needle is at 2000, let off the clutch and stomp the pedal at the same time. This should get you rolling with a nice pull.

    Shifting...

If equiped with a short shifter, depress the clutch pedal about 3 inches and punch it into the next gear. As the shifter is entering the shift gate, pop the clutch and the shifter will be planted into gear. No grinding. I will try to get some videos up about how to quick shift and launch. If others have them, hook us all up and post them.

    • Oct 04, 2006 10:25:15 pm
with my lsd and tires. I drop the clutch at 2,500 and feather the gas... I can't say that worked for me or not though. Because they people I had install my parts didn't tighten the bolts on my transmission mount and I broke the case. I haven't been to a track since.

But kill stories. I/H/E 240 sx auto, and a "supposedly" internally modded teggie LS (cams and I/H/E)
I had em by a good 5 lenghts.

Well, he's definately got a custom setup when it comes to F/I so I wouldn't put anything past him either.

not that i know much about racing, but from what i've been reading on the forums

how do you get all that power effeciently to the ground? you are still in a FWD car

evo sti are awd.. so i fail to see how you did it. if im wrong, please explain.

your absolutely right...even with his 290 or something whp, thats not significantly higher than evo's and sti's to a point where he'd get the jump off the line line he claims he does (unless theyre brand new drivers and dont know how to launch an awd)

oh, dont worry, i definitely dont doubt that he has a custom setup, let alone a good one. but unless he's driving around town in dr's all day, and he's that high 12's tc in the vid i posted up, then there's no possible way.

Launching and shift points are key. If you can get a launch with minimal wheel spin and shift at the point just before it'll peel, you can engage the next gear just at the peak of the last gears torque range giving you a continual pull. Perform this from 1st-3rd, and after that, hit your redline and shift hard. That's what I would assume and think would work the best.

Upgrade your drive train and tires. Motor mounts do wonders. New tires do wonders. And get a LSD so you aren't a peg leg.

    ^^Agreed

The only cars on my kill list are Saturn Vue, old Ford Explorer.

    Saturn Vue:

We pulled up at a light, I wasn't going to race him but was going to pass him (merge lane ahead).

The light turned green (My reaction time was faster than his by almost a second.)
, my foot was down on the gas halfway and I noticed he gunned it.

He couldn't get past me and I passed him by a car lenghth at 60 mph. I slowed down after that. He was real pissed afterwards.

I knew it wasn't a 4 banger because theres no way he could kept up with me if he was driving one. I also know that I would get smoked if he was driving the 3.5 L

here are the stats for both cars:

2004 Toyota Solara SE (2.4L auto):

    0-60: 8.94 sec

    1/4: 16.9

    curb weight: 3230 lbs

    horsepower/torque: 157/162

    ---------------------------------------------------
    2003 Saturn Vue (V6) FWD:

    horsepower/torque: 181/195

    curb weight: 3,396 lbs

    0-60: 8.4 seconds

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Ford Explorer:

On a road merging into a four lane road I was going at moderate speed. A old school Ford Explorer accelerates and gets next to me wouldn't let me go into his lane so I gas it and passed him and let off at 80 mph. He almost ran me off road and into a dang tree.
