I originally posted this in a thread on the intake section but also putting it here for product review… Mods if you need to change anything, feel free.

AFE PRO DRY S AIR FILTER Review:

Received the AF PRO-DRY-S filter today… Dropped her in and couldn’t wait to take her out…Haha… Took the xB out warmed her up a bit and than got on it…. It really does make a difference… The engine is more responsive and it’s just like they say, it seems to shift like butter. I don’t know how it does this but it makes it seem like a whole different transmission. It seems to shift faster and smoother than before.

The engine is more responsive and does sound different too… It however doesn’t have the sound modulation of a SRI or anything like my Weapon R Secret Weapon as far as sound but it does have a nice racing type “smooth” sound compared to the restricted stock filter that Toyota uses. I suspect this is due to the design of the stock air intake and is designed to be quiet… I could take out the secondary sound filter but probably won’t right now. Pretty happy with the results of this filter over all. It is rather porous looking and free flowing as far as air, I hope that it does indeed filter…Haha… In my opinion it is way more free flowing than the K&N oil filters and won’t have the messy oil runs in comparison.

As far as cleaning it, it states it can be bumped to remove particles, it can also be vacuumed out and also can be washed under running water and even a dish soap or a laundry detergent can be applied, rinse and let dry for a few hours.

Overall if your looking to add a bit of pep to your stock air intake this is a great choice, however if sound modulation is your bag and like the sucking sound than a after market SRI or CAI would be a better choice, however if you’re going to throw on an exhaust anyways, it ain’t gonna matter because you ain’t gonna hear the intake anyways.

Overall Reb gives this a 5 out of 5 star rating as far as a free flow drop in filter and is the best I’ve seen to date in this category…

    If you get one, Enjoy!

my impressions on the aFe pro dry s air filter.

i like the idea of having a dry filter that can filter out as much as a oil filter with out the issue of having oil fun down into my throttle body (k&n). i wanted to keep the stock intake pipe for legal issues and wanted a drop in filter that would flow better and the aFe pro dry s air filter was exactly what i was looking for.

for added air flow i bought a 3" flex tube for intake from autozone and ran it from the fake vent from the front bumper up into the air box. i removed the stock pipe that ran into the fender to be able to run the flex pipe up. the JD Grills would help keep bigger rocks and stuff from climbing up into the air box. ive found small rocks that climbed up into the air box via the flex tube. every now and then i unbolt the box and dump the small rocks. no biggie for me. on rainy days just unplug the flex tube from the air box end and plug the flex tube with a rag. when not in use the rag is placed right next to the flex tube. this way i can plug the flex tube when it starts raining unexpectedly.

here a some comparison shots of the stock paper air filter versus the aFe pro dry air filter:

if you notice in the last picture the label actually says its made for the corolla and matrix. on the website when you order the filter it says its for the matrix and tc. not sure if this filter is only made for the corolla and matrix and that it just happens to fit the tc. that might be the thing here cause when i tired to close the air box it was really hard to do so. i had to push down really hard and even then the clips barely went over to lock. once locked though it was on securely. again, im not sure if this was made for the tc specifically or its suppose to fit on that way. its not a big issue though. it insures a tight seal all around. everything fits well even lines up with the 2 forward facing tabs like it suppose to.
