What car (stock) would generally be faster at a quarter mile or/and 0-60? Assuming they were either both manual or both automatic.Peace,

Tiburon GT ($17,999) is powered by a 2.7-liter V6 rated at 172 horsepower. Its suspension is stiffer and the wheels and tires are upgraded in size to 17-inch alloys shod with 215/45R17 Michelin Pilots. Fog lamps are standard, and the interior is dressed up with map lights, upgraded audio system, automatic temperature control, cruise control, deluxe carpeting, leather seat trim, metal/grain dash and panel trim, and leather wraps for the steering wheel and shift knob. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, and buyers can also choose a four-speed automatic ($900). GT options include a package including a power sunroof and an Infinity premium audio system with 360-watt amp with six speakers and subwoofer ($1,300); the same package with 440-watt audio amp and leather seat facings ($1,940); or buyers can go all the way and get the upgraded premium audio system, leather, and sunroof, with anti-lock braking system ($2,435). Tiburon SE ($19,999) is equipped with the 2.7-liter V6 and six-speed manual transmission. It will come standard with all of the premium options of the GT, plus a Kenwood AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system, torque, voltage, and fuel consumption gauges, aluminum foot pedals, red aluminum brake calipers, and anti-lock brake system. The power-tilt sunroof ($750) is the only available option. The SE is a late-2005 model. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for all the info but I-m just wondering about their 0-60 and 1/4 miles? I was wondering which one would win a race in stock version.

i hate to say it but, the tibby will beat us stock for stock. however, its not by much. i believe we run the quarter stock high 15s/low 16s. the tibby runs mid to low 15s stock. 0-60 i know we do it in about 7.4 sec. the tib, i do not know. but i-ve heard the 5speed is faster in the quarter by a few tenths in the quarter than the 6speed. only top speed will the 6speed be a little faster. considering its a v6 and we-re I4, its not that bad. the I4 tiburon however will lose to us bad.

the I4 tib is pathetic.. and for a v6 the power the GT puts out is embarassing on Hyundai-s part

I wouldn-t think so....you only pay about the same price as a tC for a tiburon, and you-re able to get a V6. It-s just a detuned engine, which really is good for the buyer, since it responds quite well to mods. It-s run what ya brung, not how you got the power, in my opinion. Otherwise the SRT-4 and cobalt looks pretty pathetic compared to the RSX-S since -omg it needs a 2.4 L AND a turbo to put out only 30/50 more hp than a N/A 2.0 L- but we certainly know that-s just a ricer-s argument And this is in the wrong section
    • Aug 12, 2005 8:31:41 am
thats wat i meant, its like they just dumped a V6 into the bay
    • Aug 12, 2005 11:35:53 am
V6 2.7L at 170HP is LOW... since ours I4 2.4s are around 160HP... just a couple of hundreds more on performance MODS and the TC will have even more power than a whole V6 tibby

Okay guys! Ive owned both cars, and have ran my tiburon at probably 80 runs or so(im being conservative here) down the 1320.Edit: adding thisVery simple question, do you drive auto?Because if you do, the tiburon auto performs incredibly close to the manual versions, which is pretty unheard of in this class of import compact. My Auto v6 ran a 15.8 at the track bone stock, a good 5/6spd time is about 15.6. My auto with a intake ran a 15.2First off, its very simple:If you want to mod, do you want to stay N/A or add boost? If you want to stay n/a, the v6 tiburon is far and away the best choice. Yes the 2.7l at 172hp/183 tq is low, but that power is missing merely because of extremely restrictive intake and y-pipe mostly. (id swear it was 1.5- or so at the y at the rear section of the exhaust. Id go look but i recently took it out of the basement and put it on the curb).People are gaining 12whp and more torque with a simple cai.Theres plenty of n/a stuff and internals and fully built blocks you can buy for the tiburon now. if you wanted to spend big bucks NA, simply check out NexGen in the newtiburon.com sponsor sections. If you want to add boost, the tiburon 4cyl beta II is a very strong block (2liter) and will hold the boost well, however, if you buy this engine and DONT turbo it, expect it to be very SLOWW.We know the tC performs amazingly with boost, what we dont know yet is how long it will last. Are you new to driving a stick?Hyundais clutch is very weak, if you are uh, unforgiving in your shifts, put aside some money to purchase a new clutch asap, it will fail on you most likely.Price? While the tiburon lists at around 20k+ often, it is not hard to get a v6 for 16-17k on the high end, there is alot of padding on that price. They cost about the same.Comfort? The tiburon offers a more sports-car feel, which well, by some can be good or bad because the car is a far cry from an actual sports car.The seats do a really good job of holding you in, but are terribly uncomfortable(im not a big guy either.. 185lbs 6-2-) and can get annoying on long trips. Both interiors are well done, and IMHO the tib has one of the best interiors in the class, its simple and tasteful and not to kiddy-tactular like alot of the pontiacs/etc.The suspension difference between the tc and tib is again night and day. The tib, you will feel every bump in the road and youll be struggling to keep the wheels straighton a bad road, its really a problem because the raods can be quite crappy where I live. The tC is a much more -comfortable- suspension. However the tc has a MUCH better turning radius and I find that it works out just as well as the tib, you just feel alot looser doing it. The tiburon has a good bit of body roll in turns. My admisssions on the tib now that i own a tCThe tib certainly FEELS faster(i guess considering my car when I sold it was probably a second faster than the tC... thats to be expected =P). Especially after i installed my SRI, the early rpm rush of power was great and the car roared pretty nicely for a small korean 6cyl . You will get tons of compliments in a tib, especially a modded one (ive only seen one other modded tib around my parts). Youll get some haters too but whatever=PLong term?If you have a manual tiburon, it could last long, but I know alot of people with problems with the autos down the road. I know someone with a 2nd generation tib with about 110k miles on it now and hte only thing that went was the clutch, which is to be expected.the tC uses the camry-s engine, and I imagine it can withstand abuse for quite some time. boost? who knows, but if theyre selling the factory supercharger, they have to have some faith in this car.

That-s true..but if you mod the tiburon, you-ll get more power than a tC. IN the end, no replacement for displacement and the potential goes to the tiburon in terms of modding potential.

man what the hell are you smoking. how did you end up with that figure. the tiburon averages about a 7.1 to 7.3 0-60 time. you need to get out more often.

if ya want to talk about 4cyl cars then lets talk about low hp numbers then. considering the s2000 puts out 240hp out of their 4cyl. wow. any company can push an engine to the max. its just a matter of if they do it. now i have the mods listed below. and only my intake/exhaust/ and wires are installed as far as performance goes. i put down 170ft/lbs of torque on a dynojet on a 91 degree day here in miami.

Honda are high-revving engines...their b and k series blocks are amazing. But what ya got on the top, u lack on the bottom...ever wonder why our tC's 60ft tiem is almost identical to a bone stock s2000? lol... 130lb or so ft tq. thats why.

i am not arguing tq i am arguing the hp, he wants to talk hp then lets talk hp. the b series and k series are amazing engines yes. i love torque and will take it any day. i don't like the fact that hondas can't launch for anything. you have to rev the hell outta them from a dig just to chirp.. lol.
