Okay guys! Ive owned both cars, and have ran my tiburon at probably 80 runs or so(im being conservative here) down the 1320.Edit: adding this
Very simple question, do you drive auto?Because if you do, the tiburon auto performs incredibly close to the manual versions, which is pretty unheard of in this class of import compact. My Auto v6 ran a 15.8 at the track bone stock, a good 5/6spd time is about 15.6. My auto with a intake ran a 15.2First off, its very simple:
If you want to mod, do you want to stay N/A or add boost? If you want to stay n/a, the v6 tiburon is far and away the best choice. Yes the 2.7l at 172hp/183 tq is low, but that power is missing merely because of extremely restrictive intake and y-pipe mostly. (id swear it was 1.5- or so at the y at the rear section of the exhaust. Id go look but i recently took it out of the basement and put it on the curb).People are gaining 12whp and more torque with a simple cai.Theres plenty of n/a stuff and internals and fully built blocks you can buy for the tiburon now. if you wanted to spend big bucks NA, simply check out NexGen in the newtiburon.com sponsor sections. If you want to add boost, the tiburon 4cyl beta II is a very strong block (2liter) and will hold the boost well, however, if you buy this engine and DONT turbo it, expect it to be very SLOWW.We know the tC performs amazingly with boost, what we dont know yet is how long it will last.
Are you new to driving a stick?Hyundais clutch is very weak, if you are uh, unforgiving in your shifts, put aside some money to purchase a new clutch asap, it will fail on you most likely.
Price? While the tiburon lists at around 20k+ often, it is not hard to get a v6 for 16-17k on the high end, there is alot of padding on that price. They cost about the same.
Comfort? The tiburon offers a more sports-car feel, which well, by some can be good or bad because the car is a far cry from an actual sports car.The seats do a really good job of holding you in, but are terribly uncomfortable(im not a big guy either.. 185lbs 6-2-) and can get annoying on long trips. Both interiors are well done, and IMHO the tib has one of the best interiors in the class, its simple and tasteful and not to kiddy-tactular like alot of the pontiacs/etc.The suspension difference between the tc and tib is again night and day. The tib, you will feel every bump in the road and youll be struggling to keep the wheels straighton a bad road, its really a problem because the raods can be quite crappy where I live. The tC is a much more -comfortable- suspension. However the tc has a MUCH better turning radius and I find that it works out just as well as the tib, you just feel alot looser doing it. The tiburon has a good bit of body roll in turns.
My admisssions on the tib now that i own a tCThe tib certainly FEELS faster(i guess considering my car when I sold it was probably a second faster than the tC... thats to be expected =P). Especially after i installed my SRI, the early rpm rush of power was great and the car roared pretty nicely for a small korean 6cyl

. You will get tons of compliments in a tib, especially a modded one (ive only seen one other modded tib around my parts). Youll get some haters too but whatever=P
Long term?If you have a manual tiburon, it could last long, but I know alot of people with problems with the autos down the road. I know someone with a 2nd generation tib with about 110k miles on it now and hte only thing that went was the clutch, which is to be expected.the tC uses the camry-s engine, and I imagine it can withstand abuse for quite some time. boost? who knows, but if theyre selling the factory supercharger, they have to have some faith in this car.
