I'm undecided if I should get a intake first or headers? So I was wondering if you guys can help me out with my decision.

And if I get the headers which brand is good to get and if I should take my cat out????

It doesn't really matter. Intake will make it so you can hear your engine sucking in air. Header will delete the main cat and make your car louder.
    • Feb 08, 2010 8:03:12 pm
Most go intake first then Header
    • Feb 08, 2010 8:06:32 pm
    I'd stick with Intake.

If you go witha Header...you will have RASP noise unless you get a custome Resinator to reduce the Rasp noise.

    intake first
injen cai ftw,and weapon r header.

    Ditto...

Besides.. you have to be able to pull more air in to release more out the back..

Ok thanks for the advice but should I take my cataler converter wen I get headers?

take it off?? i think its on the header and when you take it off for the after market ones you go catless

Upgrading your intake won't really make a big enough difference with stock to warrant the extra airflow anyways.

Either way though, upgrading to an Aftermarket header will force you to lose your primary cat unless you buy one with a high-flow incorporated into the design. I don't think there is a company that makes one for the tC right now.

As for intake vs header, its really what you're looking for.

Intake will yield an increase in intake volume. Header will make your exhaust system louder. You might get a bit of rasp but between the stock spipe, midpipe and axleback you should be fine. Most header/axleback systems won't have much rasp (with the exception of the TRD axleback)

Most go Intake followed by exhaust from the axleback making way to the spipe and finally header for those who want the extra sound. Most who install a header have to had a resonator added to dampen the rasp created from a header.

    I would go intake.

If you want a good intake go Injen, it's dyno tested for the highest HP/torque gain, If your looking for more HP, go intake, header should come second.

I put a Injen CAI on my car, then got a TRD and DC Headers, DC headers have a lot of rasp and sounds weird with all that combined. If I were you I would stick to an intake IMO.

stick with an intake boss, it will give your car a good agressive sound. if you have exhaust too you'll get a pretty good sound after install, headers usually tend to make a pretty raspy sound, but good for some power!

If you think that's weird, put a short-ram on. After about 4k under WOT, the engine sounds like it has a leaf blower powered by Jesus attached to the throttle body.

haha... i was browsing SL and found that. Hate SL but that made me laugh.
    Bump

Is it that bad with the TRD?
    • Mar 11, 2010 8:58:43 pm
how bad would the rasp be with intake headers and a cat back dezod exhaust?
    • Mar 11, 2010 11:43:36 pm
Both upgrades will benefit, but the CAI is a bit cheaper than the header, pending on whom you buy it from and the name brand. I would do the CAI first then the header.

CAI: AEM, Injen, Weapon-R, K&N, Fujita
Header 4-1/4-2-1: DC Sport, Weapon-R, OBX, Greddy

    intake!

    gotta watch eliminating catalytic converters

youll eliminate 2 with a header!!
    • Mar 12, 2010 12:04:22 am
Don't eliminate or gut out CAT's, instead buy a high-flow universal CAT from CatCo or Magnaflow. People don't realize the the harm their doing when they gut or elimate the CAT's completely: loss in compression and backpressure. I asked toyota/scion this and they all agreed, not a smart idea.

    ^^^ what i said
    • Mar 12, 2010 1:20:50 am
well i dont have stock piping...i have a magnaflow exhaust with no resoneter but i still have my CAT. Idk if that will change which one first??
