Petsmart carries that Blue Wilerness brand. I was looking at that and thought about it, but was distracted by other foods all around me. I'll have to look into that since it's locally accessible.

I might try a small bag and see what happens too...

    Its trial and error sometimes

B.A.R.F. is actually the best diet you can give a dog. Raw food.

yes, normally if you change a dogs food right away its stomach will not react well to the new kibble. They also may have allergies. You are supposed to slowly introduce the new food while mixing it in with the old food.

For the most part too, the lesser quality food will smell and taste more appealing to the dog, so dont let the dog choose!

The best food Ive found in PetSmart is WellnessCore. 6 star rated.

Another thing to remember, is that all "commercial" dog food is designed to make the dogs stool look solid and give it a shiny coat. Is it really good for the dog? No.

BeforeGrain by Merrick is also a very very good food. 5 star rated. Used it for over a year. However, Yoshi and his sister (1 week old) will be getting raw food. Raw chicken, chicken liver, fruits and vegetables.

^^Yep totally agree! Im thinkin on tryin other dog foods but for my Rott

I just have to try to keep the glucosimine and chondroitin in there somewhere

(because of Rotts his back legs) its hard to find a food with both of those in it

If you know of any let me know pls ?

(sorry if this is off topic)

Ok, the puppies are here! Sorry for the delay, but we've been playing and walking them all night long. They are in their crates sleeping too! We put them in individual crates, but close together, and then while Roxy wimpered and whined, we went to PetSmart. I came back and went down to see how they were doing with a tiny dim light and they were excited to see me. They had clean crates, so I pet them and went back up....NO WHINING at all .

Roxy pooped a good bit today and it was very mushy. I believe that's from the Purina Pro Plan and Pedigree wet food mix they were being given...blah. We are keeping them on the Purina Puppy for a while and have a vet visit Wednesday. We will consult with the vet on what to put them on and the suggestions you have given me will be presented as well. We found out that Squirt loves her reflection and on the walks, everytime she passed a car and saw her reflection she would get really close. No aggression or anything...just curiosity. They both took 2 naps as well and laid right next to my gf and I the entire time. During dinner, my gf and I ate first and they were under the table. They were curious, but we didn't let them jump on us or stretch up to see the food. After we finished and cleaned up, THAT'S when we fed them so that a pack leadership can be established. Well...the long awaited pictures are in...

    Here's Roxy:

And Squirt (she's in nap mode):

And the 3 of us taking a nap(well, not me since my gf woke me up for the picture):

    Congrats on getting them!!!
    • Jul 21, 2010 10:48:45 pm
wow those dogs are adorable! good luck with them!!!!

    a few more pointers...

make sure you are constantly sticking your hands in their food while they eat... this will make them tolerant of being bothered when food is around and lower the chance of them developing food aggression.

the vet doesnt give 2 squats what you feed them, and unfortunetely im serious - at least with my vet. in fact, he tried to sell my some stuff from his office which i later researched to find it was loaded with grain. FAIL.

the loose stool is pretty normally actually. I am sure they are stressed going to a new home and being exposed to a lot of new things. totally normal. it will probably clear up within the week.

to be honest, get them off that dog food. the first year is extremely important to their development and its really vital they get either very good kibble, or a raw diet.

once again, good luck and ill keep popping in here with pointers!

^^All awesome points! I wanted to add also feeding from your hand and making them wait for a treat is also another way of lowering aggression and showing who is boss

Ok, the food weening I can do then. I'll have to get a bag of the Wellness Core or the Blue Buffalo puppy mix. Probobly the Wellness though...

They are hilarious to watch run laps with and they seem to do a lot together. Eating is another together activity they do right next to one another and sometimes reach into each other's bowl with no growls from the other. They took 2 naps yesterday and I'm waiting for a call from my gf about how they are now that they are awake. Hopefully their crates are clean too. It did seem to be a nervous response that Roxy pooped and peed a lot in the house. Squirt only spit a few drops and then went outside one time. We made sure to praise her a LOT for that. Roxy learned to do her poop outside last night too b/c she was sniffing around near the door. I clipped her into the leash, walked outside, let her follow and she went to the grass to do her stuff. I also made sure to really praise her for that and you could see that smile she has come out.

What treats do you recommend? I have no idea what to get but my sister used the Authority treats for her schnauzer when she was a puppy. She seemed to do fine with that, but I'm not sure if there's anything else better.

These pups were from a rescue in PA.

The mushy poop will go away within a few months. Depends could be sooner.

The pups are just a little stressed and getting used to the new home.

    Dont worry.

I figured because they are really energetic, but then have really calm times....and that's when they either poop or pee. My gf called and said the crates were clean today and they were both so happy to see her. Roxy got a little too excited and dribbled a bit of pee, but other than that, they went out with her and did their business outside. LOVE THESE DOGS ALREADY!!!
    • Jul 22, 2010 7:41:01 am
thats great they are going potty outside. keep that habit up and they will be potty trained in no time.

But ya the mushy poop will go away sooner or later.

Piddle is completely normal as well. It happens to young pups and sometime to older dogs from so much excitement.

    congrats.
    • Jul 22, 2010 12:01:25 pm
yea more than likely they wont soil their own crate...

even animals know better than to soil an area where they sleep unless the crate is too big for them..

crate training also gives added security to them

Zuke's treats are very very healthy AND tasty for dogs! stay away from milk bones and beggin strips they are NOT GOOD.

A good idea for training dogs, is to hang bells from the door knob, and everytime you go outside to go to the bathroom ring the bells. Eventually (yoshi got this almost immediately), the dogs will associate bells with going outside and will start ringing the bells when they have to go. If they ring the bells, take them outside, wait a minute or two for them to go. If they dont go, you MUST go back inside. They must understand that ringing the bells means BUSINESS and not time to play outside. I am sure you understand what I am saying. This really works! and your Shibas will continue to do this forever.

sooo web... and others... you got me hooked... officially...

the chillest puppy ever.. he laid on his back and let me pet his belly and play with his paws and never bit me or nibbled or anything just licked the whole time! Me n my gf wanted to get a Pomeranian but im heavily heavily leaning towards this exact puppy right now, the place i went actually finances the dogs lol this one in particular is 50 a month or $1,099 outright. Their fur coat is amazing, right on par with the pom poms little poof fur im sooo hooked!

OMG do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy a pomeranian

all they do is bark ! they`r the most annoying dog ever

also... buy directly from a breeder ! the ones at the local chain
stores are born from puppy mills they are inbread
and the cost is usually double !
