anyone have this noise issue?
just installed a TRD CAI and the vsv is making a loud CLICK-ing sound. dealer and other Tc owners say this is normal. thing is, i had an Ingen CAI installed before replacing it with the TRD CAI and no noise was heard with the Ingen CAI. i have never heard of this noise before on any of my friends' cars with intakes. is it just me?

I have the TRD and I don’t have any noise issue with it. Mine sounds like a regular CAI.

sad truth is i got in a front end crash and my insurance gave my repair shop $350 to replace the damaged Ingen CAI, which i got for only $140, so why not spend it all on a TRD CAI retailing at $450 on sale for $340. and here i am.

still wondering if anyone has has this issue. it can't be right, even if the damn dealer says so.

I have this noise on my K&N intake. I had it even on my stock setup. It's just a vacuum going into the valve. Nothing to worry about. It depends on how much vacuum the intake is pulling.

now wait....i have the "tick tick tick tick tick tick tick....." i thought this was valve tap or at least something coming from the head.

i don't think this is the same noise as the "intake sound" the op is describing... am i wrong?

OP- when do u hear the noise, and specifically what does it sound like, aka. what do u think it might be?

Nah, the valve tap is normal for our engine as well......just the way it's designed. On the intake, that black vacuum sensor that attached to the main tubing closest to the driver's strut tower is what he was describing. That makes a tick/taping sounds as well and just sound like a little BB in a 35mm film canister.

okay, NOW i think i know what you are talking about. i used to hear that sound, it drove me crazy. i stuffed a wristband in there and it seemed to go away. but i think it has come back recently... so its kindof more related to engine vibration than air intake flow, right?

Well, it's a vacuum sensor so it's related to the vacuum effect of the intake. It's nothing to worry about though. I believe there's a vacuum line that runs off the TB into it and that's where it gets that pulsating tap.

ok guys. . . i solved it.
turns out the dealer tech who installed my TRD CAI, purchase and install at a discount, left the flange loose. i tightened it and the loud clicking is gone. the sensor still ticks as it should, but at a level i can live with. it's quite in the cabin once again and the noise i only hear is the roar coming out of my TRD CAI. yipee!

thanx to all that helped out.
