![]() You hear about LED this and LED that. How many people do you know that actually know what a LED is or how it works? Well, read on. LED or light-emitting-diode is not the same thing as a normal incandescent bulbs. Inside the tiny plastic piece is a semiconductor. The science of it is way too hard to explain. I'll keep it simple. The semiconductor uses a special type of metal that allows a tiny bit of power to give off a whole lot of light. How long can a LED last? Scientist say 500,000 hours or 57 years. It may as well be FOREVER. What really makes an LED special is the fact that it can give off a lot of light without using a lot of power. That's why LEDs are used in clock radios, IPODs, cellphones and the list goes on and on. ![]() LEDs are great, but just because a product says, LED doesn't mean it's going to be bright. Not all LEDs are created equal. New science has led (no pun) to new LED materials and technology. The brightest LED is called Luxeon and it can use and much as 3 watts but gives you the brightness of 30 regular LEDs. Click the link to learn more about light emitting diodes. If anyone can find GOOD information that everyone on here can benefit from (b/c A LOT of people have no idea what an LED is or what HIDs are), then I can make it a sticky in the appropriate forum. I just want to have this site gain a lot of all-around knowledge so that it can become a bit more attractive to other forum users. The more information you can post, the more people you will have visit the site to attain that knowledge. ![]() Ignorance is bliss....305 fo life!...haha...Poser |
