This post will hopefully help a lot of new users make the most effective use of the search function.

I'll break it down as easy as I can:




you might be tempted to start here, but it's even better to use the "Advanced Search"






^once you're here, I'd actually change to look for thread titles, it's much less confusing and it's why moderators always tell you to be specific on your thread titles

put in a keyword, to be funny, I tried "cheese"






^ damn, no thread titles including the word cheese






^let's try something simple that makes more sense









whoa, more intake threads than you can shake a stick at. more recent intake threads are at the top.






^now lets try looking for thread title keywords by a specific user, for this example I typed "Orin"


I've got a couple of threads which contain keyword "intake"







There is no point in bumping old threads, let them R.I.P.....in case you don't know where to see the created date, it's the one by the # symbol.

It seems like its time to bump this up again. We have been noticing an increase in questions and threads that have already been covered several time to near exhaustion.

Help is given to those that help themselves. Use the search and don't cry if your thread gets locked because you failed.

Just to let you all know:

Search sucks right now. MySQL fulltext is lacking in a lot of areas, and currently, I have limited lengths and tons of stop words that can't be searched on the new server. When the new forums go live, search results will be coming from a separate database and will yield much more relevant threads/posts than the current broken search.

In the mean time, please follow the advice in this thread until the new forums are up. Search will be utilized a lot. You'll even get related threads prior to posting so that you don't even have to manually search for stuff.
