Avoid agressive driving on the highway---This can reduce your economy as much as 33% at high speeds.

Check your tire pressure--underinflated wheels can cost you money in gas.

Don't drive fast until your engine is warm---safer for your engine + your engine is more efficient when it's lubed and warm. Idling your car to heat the engine will not save you gas. Idling gets ZERO MPG.

Keep your car in tune and make sure the air filter is clean.

Try and let your car coast to stops. You may save some fuel by keeping some momentum when you move again.

Don't fill up at cheapo gas stations. Spend a few cents more and go with the brand names that use more cleaners in their fuel.

When starting from a green light, don't jump off the line, accelerate slowly

When on the highway, keep your windows rolled up, the wind resistance can affect fuel economy as much as 20%

Driving at high speeds will cost you extra fuel, stay as close to 55 mph as possible, every 5 mph over will cost an additional 5% in fuel, that means you can save 10% more fuel overall by driving at 55mph instead of 65mph

Using your AC requires engine power to run the compressor and city driving is most affected, avoid your AC at speeds below 40 mph in heavy traffic

Turn off any unnecessary electronic devices or lights, using less battery power eases the resistance on the alternator to keep charge and you will save gas

Get the junk out of your trunk! Extra weight in your car requires more power when moving from a stop, weight reduction will save you a small percentage of gas

*keeping all windows sealed with AC on at highway speeds will produce better MPG than having all your windows down.

Complaining is futile when you supported the victory.

I agree but

driving agressive is unavoidable i live in south fl the highway is a friggin battlezone! at night i get to drive a little more chilled thought i tend to romp on it too since the highways are empty and i can
drive fast without having to jam my breaks every few hundred feet.

I only double cluth and down shift on curves and corners and when passing, i always coast to a stop in neutral.

huh.huh orin said "lubed and warmed" he he yeah lubed and warmed...

only ammoco and chevron forme sir, actually i drive fast and used 93 oct so gas was murder i'v down graded to 89.

wow that was more intense than that one time I forgot how to sit down...

if you combine the windows up with AC you'll still come out ahead because the affect of wind resistance costs more fuel than the AC compressor alone

having the windows down on the tC creates a parachute effect when driving at highway speeds

wind resistance is proven by the EPA to cost as much as 20% in fuel economy

here is a site to confirm this information:

Especially at higher speeds, using the air conditioning is much more fuel efficient than rolling down the windows

If you are feeling like you wanna live on the edge, run with your spare tire out, it weighs a ton!

Just make sure you don't sit in your trunk, because there isn't any support to hold you up!

One difficulty for me: it's tough to stay at 55 mph when the flow of traffic is 75 mph +. But yeah, those are some good tips.

^^ the tC still gets decent mileage at 75mph. anything over that though, efficiency goes out the window

Damn, I thought I was saving the juice when I floored it out of lights, cranked the A/C in the city, hit 90mph on the highway with the windows down haha.

Good tips, I didn't know it was 55mph I thought it was 60mph... good to know.

I can't help aggressive driving, I had a slow '94 accord and I am avenging myself everyday haha.

Unfortunately, I've got you beat. I was cruisin' in a '94 Mitsubishi Expo. . . (Not mine. . . mine was black. But this goes to show you how embarrassed I was for several years.)

I'm sorry, how the gas mileage on that cause the accord ran forever on a tank.

Sometimes I wondered if someone wasn't syphoning my gas. . .

But now, no more worries. Granted, the tC is a far cry from top-of-the-line fuel economy, but it's nothing to complain about either.

I was trying to find some sort of proof to substantiate the claim that you get better MPG at the top of the tank vs the bottom, and should refill your tank when you get between 1/2 and 1/4 tank, and I came across a very interesting article:

http://www.pureenergysyst...05/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

This article states that by adding a small amount of pure acetone to your fuel it reduces the surface tension of the fuel molecules and causes them to behave more like propane which is combusted 100%. Reading the article, the chemistry behind it seems to make sense. Any opinions?

^^^ Did a little further research on this and Mythbusters busted this, actually showing that w/ the acetone, the cars got slightly less MPG.

Season 3 Episode 16

This would seem to offer contradictory information:

The jury's still out...

Those are some good tips. Has anyone ever used marvel mystery oil? I have used it in my car since 2000 and am getting 23mpg on it. All it is, is a fuel system cleaner. It really works too.

how about having your fuel injectors clean by using injector cleaners (for old cars and such)

Sure, anything you do to help with the efficacy of the fuel flow will optimize your mpg. Especially since you're helping the fuel atomize better now that the injector is not clogged, the better the atomization the better the burn.

yep, a cleaner fuel system will earn better MPG, but you shouldn't over do the fuel system cleaners.. once every 5,000 miles is ok.

Gas treatments like STP "gas treatment" in the red bottle work nice too.

Switched gas treatment to synthetic, currently Techron---04/09/08---16:15 central

Yea but what if it rains? Vicious' gas saving tip of the day is: Don't destroy your primary o2 sensor installing your aftermarket header. Your car will run rich and gas mileage will plummet faster than a fat chick sky-diving into a pool of jell-o
