I edited the first thread so now this won't be a misleading thread. I'll add Dr. Isotopes pics to it.

haha...........hey, at least Dr. Isotope came in and alerted me of the possible issue with the cable breaking. But, I edited the thread and got rid of all misleading posts and comments that were directed towards the cable tightening.

Vicious: Let me know if just the directions I have are enough. If not, I'll get some pics this weekend. I'll just take the tire off and redo/photograph the steps.

I've turned the gear on both sides to both extremes at the same time and right now, I have no e-brake regardless. What am I doing wrong?

Here is what I have turned both ways because it isn't clear which way to go. When I turn it up, the screw threads show, when i turn it all the way down, the screw threads all go away.

Is it because I have the pads/rotors and everything off right now? I thought that they are seperate

More threads showing = tighter.

The inside of the rotor is a drum. You need to have the rotor on the car to get anything done.

Yes, if you haven't adjusted the bolt on the handle, then just leave the handbrake in the "unlocked" position (same as when driving).

fyi make sure after you do this adjustment to turn the rear wheels...often people keep on turnin and dont realize that they tighten too much that the rear wheels dont turn at all....

hahaha, that's so true. Just turn the rotor by grabbing the studs and get them to spin enough to have just a little resistance.

does the ebrake ever have to be replaced?

Yes, they wear down. They are 2 little C-shaped shoes on the inside of each rotor hub.

Another thing to try if you don't want to mess around with all of those tools and getting dirty is to find an empty parking lot, and backup going between 5-10 mph, pull the e-brake up slowly until you stop. Not to hard as to lock up the wheels(owww flat spots) but just enough to slow you to a stop. If you do this a few times the AUTOMATIC adjuster will push the pads out to the inside of the rotor. This goes for all Drum style brakes. The only time this does not work is if the adjuster is all gummed up and siezed. But that's a whole other DIY.

Problem with that...

With our brake systems, we don't have automatic adjusters. Automatic adjusters have a spring loaded arm that turns the gear on the screw (which spreads the pads out) as they wear down. We don't have that little arm and our screw/gear is manually adjusted.

All DRUM brakes are automatically adjusted but e-brake kits on 4 wheel dic brakes are usually manual. In our case, they are manual.

I don't park on an inline much but when I do, it takes about 10 clicks for the ebrakes to engage and my car to stay put. I guess I should adjust it a little when I get a chance. This DIY looks pretty easy. I need to give it a try.
