Ok, since we have the slot for the filter but it doesn't come with one, I'll give you the steps to changing it.

1) Order a Cabin filter from Drivewire

2)Open glove box to reveal a lot of junk

3)Locate molded clips on both sides of the glove box
Left:
Right:

4)Pull in on glove box edges to get the molded clips around the retaining point:
Left:
Right:

5)Open glove box a little further (it will not swing free but it's enough to work with

6)Locate cabin filter housing

7)Locate clips on both sides (just give it a slight tug and they release)
Left:
Right:

Remove tray

9)Find small little clips on tray (these hold the filter in place)

10)Grab the filter

11)Place filter in tray (ribs pointing up)

12)Use slight pressure to make the paper filter slide under clips

13)Put tray back in slot the way you took it out (filter will be on top; make sure you push the tray in and feel it clip)

14)Push glove box up and push side clips back past the retaining point.

YOU'RE DONE

I think I need to do this. The original owner of the car was a smoker and we have mad pollen here in the south.

I guess to make more aftermarket money....who knows.

Yeah, it helps keep the dust levels down in the vehicle. For me, when I have the heat on, it keeps any dust from blowing out the vents and depending on what type you find (paper filter or carbon filter), paper will keep dust/large particles out and carbon will keep mildew and allergens out. Of course, this all goes down the tubes as soon as you open your window....haha

I just changed mine last night from the spring time. That sh*t was grungy!

I bought a 16x20x1 3M Filter (purple lable for 15$) and it was the ultra allergen filter for pollen, smoke and dust mites. Trimmed the out edges off and stripped the metal screening away. Cut it into 4 squares the size of the last filter I got (or just measure the inside of the tray where it sits) and now I have 1 in the car and 3 more filters ready to go for the same price I paid for the "direct replacement" one . That old one was just a particulate filter so smoke and some smaller spores/pollen and mites got in. This should keep all of them out

I installed a filter last night, but accidentally pulled my glove box too hard. It came out completely, and brought an odd looking plastic component with it. I think it functions like a spring for the glovebox, but I couldn't tell how to reinstall it. The glove box works fine opening and closing, but it just sort of falls open now, instead of slowly opening. anybody know what i'm talking about, or how to reattach?

Never had that happen to me and I've done it 4 times on my car. That air shock should just snap back into a small housing, unless it broke.

Yeah, mine's come off before, and you just reach in and pop it back on the tab that holds it. Hopefully it didn't break...

There is a little hinge on the right hand side when you pop out the glove box. It connects to a little knob on the actual glove box. It sounds like that might have disconnected. Here is a pic of what I'm talking about. Try to connect the two pieces back together and your glove box shouldn't just fall down anymore..

FYI- Unhook this hinge to get better access to the air filter ;)

Here it is hooked together. This is what it SHOULD look like.

Here it is unhooked. This is probably what happened. The long hinge part might flip back up into the compartment, so just pull down on the glove box and look up into the compartment to find the hinge part.

Hopefully this helps!

okay, my lazy butt finally decided to buy a filter put it into the cabin.

^this filter blocks almost everything and it's recommended for people with allergies.

^this is so easy to do, I'd compare it to putting toast in the toaster.

The end result was air that doesn't hurt my contact lenses with bits of flying dust + it smells clean.

No decrease in air flow noticed, but the air seems better and it does collect a lot of stuff. And it didnt come with one because its an option. The dealorships sell them for about $20. Cheaper to make your own.

Thanks for the responses Dispatcher...

Blazed...yeah, make your own b/c you can make 4 for the price of 1 filter that way. Change them every 3 months and 1 big filter will last you all year! The pink in the OEM one is just the cotton dye they use. Nothing special.

This DIY is awesome...I think I might do it this weekend. Is this the filter that you are talking about?? I'm not so sure if it is.

OK. So I bought the filter, and cut it enough to fit the cabin....It was so easy! now, as Web said, I have 3 more filters for the price of one! I drove around for a while this morning, and the air difference is definitely worth it! I would recommend the 3M High Performance Filter. It sells for $19.97 at Home Depot, and its good for people with allergies and protects from foul smells!
