15 flat with a S/C'ed Cobalt is slow. I ran a 15.1 with only an exhaust system for power in the tC.

That's an amazing time to drop .6 off of stock 1/4 times. That's just driver skill and nothing else b/c that exhaust didn't cut that much time off. If that were the case, we'd all be in the low 14s. Nice run.

Thanks man, although I kinda say it really was not all that much of driver skill. That was the first time we ever took it to the 1/4 mile track. My fiance, whom I taught how to drive a manual in 3 days, and then we bought the tC (so it's her first manual tranny car), had the car for 3 months before going to the Scion Shootout a few years back. She being a noob to manual tranny and all...STILL ran consistent 15.1 - 15.2 1/4 mile times. She made it to 15.1 before I even did. She also weighs a 100lbs less than me, so that can factor in why she was able to drop that low. Me, I had to drive the piss out of it to get to those times.

Well you have to account for variable change. What sea level you are at, how cold was it that day, what was the humidity etc. all of those factors could upset the time. Do you really think that the people that test these cars are not as good drivers. Anyway scion put up some of these times and I would think that its in their best interest to put up the best time possible because it would look better on paper.

It's not a matter of whether or not the people that test them are good drivers. It's a matter of the time frame they have to test them in. They are given what like 2 weeks at max to do the ins and outs of a car, versus someone who has been driving it for years, and has learned the proper launching capability of the vehicle.

This is the prime reason why you always find magazines with higher 1/4 mile, 1/8th mile, 0-60 times, etc. 99.9% of the time, if you look up what a magazine quoted as a cars performance, it will be .5 secs or more slower than what the community does with the car.

Yeah there is truth in that as well but a professional driver will get used to a car much quicker than your average driver. That is why they have that job. But like I said a lot of it has to do with variables.

That SS, although having the SS S/C wing, did not have ANY S/C whine what so ever. It doesn't matter how far away you are in the stands watching those cars...they whine as soon as they hit 2nd gear all the way up through the power band. For the mods you have, he either couldn't drive or it's not S/C, b/c he never regained any distance on you. That S/C will walk down a modded NA tC. It was a nice race, but I think you raced a cloaked 2.4 SS and not the 2.0 S/C.

Agreed it didnt have any whine. Any web I will say you dont hear whine in first gear but very little of it cuz its a short gear. I love hear my whine in my SS and as a matter of fact i raced a tc yesterday after meeting up with Frankrzzyo. And i walked him pretty bad. So we pulled over and he said he had a intake pulley and headerback exuahst. Im stock, i just took the bottom half of the airbox off to hear the whine a lil more. The cobalt wasnt a S/C

Yeah, 15 flat is "slow" for their stock times and for his 1st time ever racing that car at a track. He hasn't been back yet but since we both don't go much at all, practicing is limited.

A race at the drag strip vs a race on the street from a roll are two different animals. At the strip, it's about the driver being able to do his job, and the cars power comes after that. From a roll on the street that takes out 90% of the driver doing his job, and more or less all about the power of the vehicle.

Example, at the drag strip, a Cobalt SS running a mid 15sec 1/4 mile and trapping higher than a tC running low 15's with bolt-ons but trap speed is lower.

The tC might have won at the drag strip, but put them on the street, and the cars trap speeds come into play. Because the SS trap speed was higher, it will beat the tC with bolt-ons from a roll.

Well, there's the whine. I guess I'll put my foot in my mouth and pat you on the back for a nice win. My buddy must just drive better than me ....But I won't ever tell him that! haha

not sure if any one els has raced a 2.5 altima 4dr. but tonight on my way home some guys wanted to show off their car and TRIED to race me. i kept it cool when he first cut me off at the red light, when he turned i noticed it was only a 2.5 thats when i decided to have some fun with them. he pulled up to a red light and i pulled up next to him but i went a lil bit more infront then he did the same. i saw them looking at my car and i just looked at them and smiled closed my windows and sun roof and just waited for the light to drop to green once it droped i plunged it, i hit a minor bump and then the wheels really locked on to the road it felt like i was turbo for a sec, he tried to take off but not quite able to keep up with me. after about a block i let off the gas and then i noticed he was still gunning it so i took off again while still infront of him, i took him out for about 5 blocks then i slowed down for a red light and then just stoped i gues he was mad and just blew it by the red light. all i could say was good luck buddy. i tried to find him afterwords but he left to who knows where. just thought i should share this lil store of my drive home. has any one els raced a altima 2.5?

played with a 07 or 08 mustang on the way home from the beach. it was a v6 bone stock. we got on a long straight stretch and took of at about 70-75. it was almsot dead even until about 110 when i started to pull ahead and i let off at 125 (fastest iv'e ever had my car up to). he pulled back up even with me and lifted his hands and shrugged his shoulders. i gave him a thumbs up. at least he was courteous about losing.

They are decent but heavy cars for that small of a motor and output. 3200 lbs car with only 175 hp. It's close to ours so it's pretty much a dead even race for a stock tC. Even a slightly modded (intake/exhaust) tC would have a neck and neck race. They aren't too impressive.

Only reason you won is because the s197 mustangs are governed at 116mph. His timing shut off. They put 210 hp to the crank. More then that torque. Still put 170+ rwhp. He must have not known how to drive...

on my way to work in the morning a 97 mustang gt cut me off, so i decided to tail gate him. After a second he steped on it so i down shifted to fourth and punched it, we went for it for about a mile and we were dead even til he let go of the gas and when i let go of the gas to he passed me and gave me a thumbs up.

Any stock mustang gt before 2001 was a joke. They were slow as balls. Way to hang with a v8, though! I'd feel good...

Yeah, you can at least say you hung with a V8. I've beaten 2 old 5.0 mustangs (1 at the track and 1 on the street). The one at the track was his first time driving that thing and he just sucked at life pretty much. I beat him 4 times in a row, run after run.

The street one was from a dead stop and it was a 96-97 GT. He burnt his street tires up off the start so as he was wasting that time, I just kept pulling away from him. He stayed about 1-1.5 cars behind me after that up to about 115ish.

I've raced a few V8's. Even an 06 GT Stang with the Pro Charger and 440whp on it. They need to lighten those up a bit, cause I still beat him. Most Stangs around here though are all bark and no bite.
