On my way to work today, this Jetta was stalking me and at the light, he cut his way through the car behind me was able to line up beside me. I didn't look at him, but I knew he wanted to race. We waited and waited at the light. The light was a pretty long red light. Once the light turned green, I didn't go full throttle, but I accelerated a lil quicker than normal. I was ahead of him, and I saw him quickly trying to pass me. He was side by side with me and then I slammed on the gas pedal and there we go. We stayed side by side for like 3 seconds or so and then I just ditched him. At the next light, he pulled up and asked me to roll down my window. He asked if I was Turboed. I said that I was supercharged. He was surprised that I was able to even hang with him, even more surprised I beat him cause he has a VR6 6 cylinder. I asked him what he's done. He said he got catback exhaust, headers, and intake.

I didn't know much about the Jetta VR6, but I just done some research and it shows that the VR6 was 173 hp and 181 torque. With his mods he should be close to 200 hp.

haha, my car can hold with them too ...........good thing you beat him. Those VR6 Jettas are boats for weight. They are around the GLI weight ...somewhere around 4000+.

V6 means nothing!...haha

Good win though.

big props for the VR 6 win!

^ those are stock specs for a 2004 model, which is the same for other year models

he probably had a good 180 to the wheels and about as much torque

Just to make my drive to work a little more interesting I decided to race a 2006 Nissan Z (This car was hooked up with some staggered wheels exhaust and intake my guess about 300HP). So he was in front of me while we were cruising in front of the beach on slow 25MPH 2lane road; at least the cars in front of him where going 25 he passed them and then I followed till we ended up at a light. By the time he was at the light his car was completely stopped and I was still going about 45 to catch up to him when I was going to hit the brakes the light turned green and a slammed on the gas in 3rd and passed him as he just took off but that did not last long he came back to my side and just passed me by about 3cars because there was another light. It was a fun morning; if I was driving my bimmer I think I could have had a fighting chance.

its been a while since ive had a race that was worthy of leaving a comment...seems like they are doing construction everywhereeeeeeeee over here....but today it was a nice day and i was sorta in a rush....i had my system up and my ac on but i wasnt really paying much attention to anything else until a bmw 325 convertible came weaving thru aggressively....i gave him the test to see if he wanted to race (weaved by him to see if he would follow) and ofcourse he did...so we started going at it......at several points i dropped down to 60 to wait for him...he finally caught up when i was exiting.....it was fun.

Stock for stock, the tC "could" beat a VR6. Their 1/4 mile numbers are very similar with the tC about .2 seconds faster so it's definately a drivers race there. I am slightly modded and have beat VR6s a couple times. One tried to do a ricer flyby and as he passed i punched it, caught up , AND passed him.

^The VR6 that ran me did the same thing. He was coming up behind me on a long, open back road and decided he wanted to pass me. Well, with his momentum, he gained enough speed to swing around and start to pass my back bumper. That's when I dropped into 3rd at around 60 (sweet spot) and punched it. He matched up to my front bumper but couldn't do anything else. For about 1/4 mile we were neck and neck with my car starting to open up a bit. He then backed off and dropped back b/c of a car coming.

At the stop sign, he rolled down the window and told me that he didn't expect that at all...haha

We sat and chatted for a few seconds just giving specs and he had an exhaust and intake from Neuspeed and was getting a chip or something the next day. It was pretty decent but nothing to be scared of.

Me and my buddy went to panama city last week and on the way down there we took seperate cars because i was going to leave a day early and go c family. anyway we were on a 4 lane highway (2 on each side, im pretty sure thats called a 4 lane but i have been wrong before) in the middle of nowhere alabama. i was in my tc following him in his mustang in the right hand lane when i noticed an 18 wheeler had come up behind me. i moved over a lane and let him by and then moved behind him and a couple of minutes later i get a call from my buddy wondering were i went. i told him i fell behind and would catch up in a minute (theres no way he believed me because me and him and that truck were the only ones on the road for as far as you could see). at that point i slowed down a little to let him get further ahead. then i floored it and moved over a lane, im gunna guess he was running about 70 or 75 and when i passed him i was goin 95 pushin 100. i held it at about 105 for a little while and when i look over hes right beside me. we both floor it at the same time and of course since he has the gt v8 with tons of parts on it he blew my doors off in my stock tc. it was still fun being in front while it lasted though

Yes

a stock tC can beat a VR6. I don't want this to turn into a Scionlife thread, but yes it's possible. No way in hell a tC will win on the highway... But from a red light, with ideal conditions a tC "could" beat a VR6. Not "will" win. but "could" win

The older ones (pre-2000) are a bit slower.

1999 GTI Golf:
172 HP @ 5,800 rpm; 173 ft lb @ 4,200 rpm crank hp

Those are fun to fun with

here specs for the VR6 1999 model... the first specs I showed were for a 2004 VR6

there is a big difference in those two generation models....

specs for the 2004 VR6 which I originally posted

^ a 2004 VR6 although heavy, would be in the same range as a 2006 GTI in terms of power output.

stock for stock a tC would own a 1999 VR6

I apologize to tCizzler for my misunderstanding
