Posted on wrong thread?? Inside joke??? ~shrugs shoulders~ As for your question Tank978 if you feel comfortable in your friends car then go ahead and get the MT. As long as you got the concept and you are not stalling out on every red light and stop sign you should be fine. Not saying that you will be totally comfortable in the tC right off the bat but it will take some practice and getting used to just like every other MT automobile. |

haha, yeah, wrong thread sorry. Even guru's screw up sometimes i guess. What i meant to say was: I've been driving stick for 8 years, and out of all the japanese manual trannies i've driven, the tc is certainly one of the more difficult. It takes a lot of concentration to properly balance clutch engagement and throttle position. There is just a lot of slack in both of the pedals, and it can make it a PITA to shift, especially at lower engine speeds. During aggressive acceleration, i can shift like butter most times, but the daily driving is tricky. THe clutch is almost TOO LITE, and the throttle pedal gives no feedback or resistance. Its like your feet are hanging in mid air and you have to feather it . Once your in gear, you're fine. And it is a good deal of fun to drive once you're good at it. But still, kinda tricky for me...i've been driving the tc 2+ years. if that gives you any insight. |

Yeah i dont really stall too much now. Im fine at lights and stop sign but i can def see myself stalling a few times and getting nervous and staling again. Ive been drivin my friends car which is a 98 mustang and he said if i learnt how to drive his car any other cars should be fine. i hope it doesnt take me 2 months or so to learn how to drive the tc espiecally since its going to be my first stick shift and im going to be commuting to college in about 3 weeks. |

I agree with tcfuzion. This is one of the more difficult manual transmissions to operate. After a while you should be able to shift like an auto with peopel even noticing. Shifting super smooth requires too much concentration with this car so I jsut shift how I would in any other car when im alone but when I have company I try to keep every shift unnoticable. |

You'll should be fine in a matter of days. Just go out late at night to get used to launching on hills and remember, practice makes perfect. |

i RARELY if ever have stalled (if you know how to drive stick you shouldn't)...but i do occasionally grind while going into gear. Its all about the timing. The long travel of the clutch pedal and the delay and sensitivity of the throttle pedal make it difficult to properly time your foot work sometimes. When you shift smooth, it feels great. When it takes 5 seconds to match your rev while your holding the clutch...it can be a bit of a pain. Overall, i'd say its worth the effort because it can be fun to drive. 2nd and 3rd gear especially. and downshifting to 4th for hiway pulls. |

So I just bought the 2007 5spd bsp tc. My first day driving it wasnt too fun. I stalled so many times at lights and when I do actually get geared into first I bunny hop so much at the beginning. The tC's clutch feels pretty different from the 98 mustang. I guess I just got to get more practice. But does anyone have any advice or tips especially for getting into 1st gear on the tC? |

You'll learn this eventually with the tC but you only need to press the clutch down about 3 inches b/c it disengages and reengages really early. Try not to until you get a short shifter b/c with the longer throw of the stock stick, you'll be grinding them gears quick. I'm with TCFuzion on the difficulty of this clutch. I've driven stick fro about 7 years, (on and off for 4 b/c of my auto truck), and this has been the hardest to get used to. Your timing is definately something you have to master between shifts. My friend just got his 98 hatch and had only learned to drive clutch for 4 days before that. Well, "learned" is an understatment since he really wasn't sure where to shift and how to get out of first. I was in the car with him for 2 hours and had him comfortable getting out of 1st and shifting through the gears. Civics are really easy to learn on b/c they have a really positive clutch engagement. That's the main thing that I was sketchy about for the first few weeks owning my tC, but now, with my short shifter and engine goodies, I'm happy. Good luck. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. http://clubsciontc.com/fo...-rims--5x100-pattern.html |

IMO theres just no consistency with the tc's shifting. Every day is like a new challenge shifting smoothly, which is part of what makes driving stick fun i guess. But still, i haven't "gotten used to it" in the sense that i bang out smooth shifts all the time...and i've been driving it for 2 years next month. |

yeah, revving the heck out of it is one sure fire way to shift easier. Another thing, notice how when you go over a bump while you're trying to shift, both your feet either let up on or stomp down on either the clutch/throttle pedal..causing your rpms to either jump or slip the clutch. Just because theres not cables tensioning the pedals |

o sorry i didnt mean launch. i mean when ur at a light on a hill and when it turns green and u wanna go, whats the best way to gear into first without over-revving or moving backwards. hills are tough. |

Pull the clutch up until you feel it engage and give it a little gas pressure. As you start to move, your RPMs will slowly drop so give it just a little more gas to level them off and you'll be moving up hill. Make sure you release the clutch all the way and aren't riding it. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. http://clubsciontc.com/fo...-rims--5x100-pattern.html |

yeah i don't like how the rpms drop a bit AFTER you've already engaged the clutch, almost feels like the clutch is slipping on the initial torque transfer. |

Floating gas pedal. I love that description. Its perfect. I'm gonna steal it from you and use it now. But thats exactly what it feels like. With an auto tranny, its not as big a deal to have ECT, because having the exact amount of throttle isn't as important because the ecu compensates...but with MT, you have to be able to control throttle and get steady, consistent revs. Something i've not mastered yet..Jeez, i wonder how all the turbo tcs are making out for daily driving. |

Imagine hitting top boost ranges and then hitting a pothole and your foot jumps off the gas and then engages again! hahahaha ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. http://clubsciontc.com/fo...-rims--5x100-pattern.html |

or even worse, you hit a pothole, your foot slams the gas pedal down, you get bumpsteer/torque steer from the pothole, and you throw the car right off the road. Way back in the beginning of the forums i warned people about the disadvantages of boosting the drive by wire throttle. Similar things were happening with boosted IS300 guys, especially with RWD..so many of them opted to swap out for a cable controlled throttlebody. problem solved. ECT is nice when the pedal has only a short travel distance, and small increments are a necessity. But with the long pedal travel on the tc, it does feel like the pedal is floating at times, and you're really fighting to apply the correct throttle WHILE managing the clutch. |
