HID lights illegal?

 So i've been searching around the forum for answers as to what would be considered illegal for HID systems. Do we have to get focusers for the housing or can we just replace the bulbs? And what light would be able to get by with? Can we get the 6000k and 8000k without much trouble? Or will there be too much glare and the cops will stop us?

 I saw somewhere that it is illegal to have HID light unless it comes from the factory.
I still installed it in my car. I got the 8000k and I have never been stopped. It probably depends on where you live. I live in New York. I have not had a problem since.

 Anything that did not come with the vehicle when you purchased it is a ticketable offense, if it strikes their fancy. Even if it did come with the car, it can give them enough "reasonable cause" to pull you over atleast and look for every little thing they can give you a ticket for. Most cops aren't this bored, but if you live in SoCali, many of them are. I had sidemarkers on my Civic and when I got pulled over, and got cited for them. I also got cited for driving with my fog lights on. So is it illegal? Most likely. Will you get a ticket? Depends what mood the cop is in...

 I have never been pulled over for HID's, I've had them for 3 months, I drive next to cops, behind cops, never had any trouble, I see a lot of BMW's, Audis, Mercedes, Acuras w/HID's that are the same or brighter than my 6000K's, I don't think cops will pull you over just for that, I know 3 people that I hang out with that have HID's and they've never had a problem either, guess it depends on where you live.

 i have gotten pulled over for having my lights too blue in color...thats about it!!
