I got a 10" alpine s type sub, that says 4ohm + 4ohm, and I have no idea what that means. Can I wire it different to make it 2 ohm, 4 ohm, 8 ohm???? A little help please.

Only 2 ways to wire it =)
it has 2 voice coils, each with a positive and a negative.
if you wire it in parallel (+ to +, - to -) You will create a 2ohm total load.
if you wire it in series (opposite + to opposite -, negative to amp -, positive to amp +) You will create an 8ohm load.
the best thing for you to do is go to www.jlaudio.com
look up their diagrams on the help site. they will clearly show you how to wire series parallel of dual voice coil subs.
depending on your amp. that will decide wether the 4, or 8 ohm setup would work best for your 1 sub.

If u have a 2 channel amp, you could also wire each voice coil to a separate channel and have two 4 ohm loads. It really just depends on the load you amp can handle, how much power you want to run it at. To squeeze the most power out of your amp wire the voice coils to a 2 ohm load, or use one channel per coil. Rarely if ever would you wire an 8 ohm configuration.

I've got a 12w4v2d4 wired for 4ohms to a single channel mono D amp running 400w...

thinking about dropping it down to 2ohm and 800w...but thats the red zone for the SUB.

Now, How do you wire a Dual 4 ohm voice coil for 4ohms on a mono amplifier? That's confusing me. and as far as running the voice coils in STEREO on a single sub. Won't work unless you have a true monoraul signal comming in. I.E. Mono sub channel output from a deck

Ohms: A measure of resistance.
you cannot just "CHANGE" The ohms.. it doesn't work like that. YOU CAN however, wire your subs to maximize the power of the amplifier without harming hte amplifier.
alpine type s speakers are usually dual 4ohm voice coils, wire them in parrallel (See www.jlaudio.com for help on parallel wiring) and create a 2 ohm load, if you read the kenwood mono amp specs it will tell you max power @ 2ohms mono. which.. is what you'd be at.
they do have ways to "Change" the resistance of a speaker. it's called a load resistor, it would work with your current subs voice coils to create a different load. say you had a 4ohm single voice coil sub, means 1 4 ohm coil. but your amp maximized @ 2ohms. you could wire another 4ohm "resistor" in parallel with your sub to create a 2ohm load. but that's a bit complicated

ok i got it, but now i have a much bigger problem. i wired everything up and i think i did it all right, but my amp is not powered up and therefore the sub is inactive. heres what i did. I ran the red power wire from the positive terminal on the battery through the firewall to the amp where it says battery, with the inline fuse like 6" from the battery. i ran the ground from the amp to the bolt on the passengers chair for the ground. rcas from the HU to the amp. finally 12g speaker wire from the amp output to the sub. the remote wire i landed on the amp, but didnt know where to put the other side. Now my HU works fine but for some reason the amp and sub arent on at all. Please help me with any knowledge or suggestions. !!!!!!

Tie your remote wire to your accessory power of your cd player (if you have it, a remote turn on wire /blue white/ off of most aftermarket decks, or just /blue/ if there is no /blue white/ wire) then your amp should come on. if not it's probably your ground. you must have all the paint scraped away from wherever the ground is connected. honestly seat bolts are BAD grounds. you'd want to grind or chissel paint and drill it into your floor if possible (watching for your gas tank and such under the car)
