I don-t have much experience in this area so I figured I-d ask you guys:I have two ideas for a sub install and I was wondering how much they might cost if I went to a shop to get the work done1) Install a sub in the trunk in a box, with an amp, and have a HU installed.2) Do a sub install so that the sub is actually in the floor of the trunk so that I keep my cargo space. Installation would include an amp and a HU again.I just want to know what you guys would think the cost for installation would be, not for the components. Thanks for your help.

Heres my o2 cents... anyone else can throw in their input according to location and job...Let-s talk strictly labor here.... Because you can find out the prices of your subwoofer and amplifier...etc.etc...1. If you have someone install your HU Its about 50$.... +$15 For the wiring harness if you didn-t already buy it along with your aftermarket HU.2. A basic box to just run the wiring from the battery, HU, and to the rear of the car should be about 100$ + Cost of Box, Sub, and Amp Wiring Kit. 3. Custom Boxes are a bit more. And most of the time if they build you a custom box, they-ll install it for you too, including all wiring from the front to rear... On Average, for an all wood, sealed box is about $300-$400 for single or double enclosure that will take up your entire trunk.....If you start going into customizing with vinyl and fiberglassing it to make nice curves for design, it can range to about 600$.... WHen you start working with fiberglass (clear paneling to show neons and stuff, or inside your amp, or stuff like that) It-ll cost you about 100$ on top of your custom job...as this requires a glue, then a drill, then a sealent...I build a custom one into the ground, it sticks up about 4 inches form the original ground level (so it looks like this...) _____[ ]_---_ with the sub facing up, and the amp to the right of it (the --- part is the amp)I have no more spare tire, so i could sink the sub in a bit, and it would have been flush with the ground, but my JL sub, the magnet is so big, and it started to grab even with that 5/8th MDF board...so i had to raise it a bit....But basically, i built it all out of MDF board, and carpeting, had all the tools i needed (like drills and screws and caulking) And i build the whole box for 60$ + 200$ Sub + 300+ Amp + 100$ HU...pushing 400w @ 4ohms (ez on the amplifier, mine can handle 800 ez on 2 ohms, and 1600 at 1 ohm) I spent about 700$ for my system...and it outbumps alot of systems.....in the future though im probably gonna PORT it to make it louder, and so it uses the whole hatch area as a box instead of just that small box...

TRD, would you suggest going to a shop and having them make everything, or would you recommend me going to bestbuy or something and having them put the stuff in with a generic box?

I just talked to an audio shop and the quoted me to start price for a custom fiberglass box would be 1000 dollars is that crazy for custom design. I was talking a box in the trunk with 2 10inch subs and an amp and lighting inside the box with see thru panel. Is that over price?

I was think of something like the below design but connected and having amps in the middle with led lighting.

Custom Box

For that type of set up I guess a thousand would be reasonable because of all the man hours required. I am also assuming that the quote includes the wiring, subs, amp, and any other parts you would need though.

$1000 could be either very reasonable (if that includes equiptment) or it could be expensive, also depends on the shop and the installer/installers working on this creation. I have a good friend of mine who runs a shop and the only 2 guys that work there are master installers and really really good at what they do, so the labor rates are a bit higher. I would recommend you check at least 1 other shop for a quote too just to see if thats reasonable for the area you live.

btw by me in NY a fiberglass box like the one you linked to could go for as much as $750 just for the box, but thats NY for you.. over inflated

i'll take pictures of my sub box install. if you're in virginia i can make you one and deliver, fiberglass, 1 12, 2 10's, maybe 2 12's for a bit more. But i normally say 300$ for the box, IT sits flush to your floor like your original spare tire cover, amp can be mounted underneath. carpeted and ready for your new sub.
if i were doing this for a living. i'd say in the neighborhood of 1000 w/ head unit, amp, wires and sub wouldn't be terrible for ok stuff for a flushed box.
