For those of you who have thought about it, I just got my sunroof tinted and it makes a big difference in how hot the cabin gets.My windows were already tinted 50%, and we would pull the shades when we parked it. But the summers in the MS Gulf Coast area are brutal. We eventually found ourselves driving the car with the roof shades pulled to help the A/C. To me, having the shades drawn takes away from the openess of the cabin. So, I paid the $50 to get both roof openings tinted. I got a 63% reflective tint to help reject heat. You can-t really tell it-s reflective since the roof already had coloring from the factory. I recommend getting the roof tinted if you are unhappy with how cool the cabin gets.Almost Jake |

Your glass is going to break, sucks for you. |

And where did you get this idea from? How is putting tinting film on the sunroof going to break the glass. This mod has been done by a few other owners with no issue. |

The darkness of the tint will soak in more heat, therefore expanding the glass which will make it break.Toyota doesn-t reccomend tinting the sunroof for this reason. Plus, I have no idea why anyone would want to do this, I-ve had cars with sunroofs before, and never heard of anyone wanting to tint their roof. |

swtc, while the general idea is correct... you-re wrong.. and do you want to know why? ...Tempered Glass. Tempered glass is made to exand and contract with temperature, making it very flexible in extreme measures.... Think about it...if i lived in california and tinted my sunroof how much more SUN can i soak in, compared to if my window was in ARIZONA heat, with regular glass (no tint) AVG temp vs. vs. is 85 to 105.... Tempered glass can stand the extreme conditions... Otherwise if we tinted our rear windows in all those other cars... why haven-t their windows broke?and im not sure if u own a TC swtc...but our whole roof is GLASS, therfore we have no metal to soak up heat or reflect any heat, we have a thin piece of vinyl to reflecy as much heat as possible....and it doesn-t do a great job.... Tinting the sunroof woudl reduce the amount of sun the vinyl would have to reflect, overall making the car cooler....i hope NOW you understand. |

Great, thanks for the atitude jackass.Great welcoming party. Next time keep your attitude to yourself. Do whatever you want with the tint, I-m just relaying some info that I gathered at the local Scion Dealership, and the tint place. |

From reading your first reply swtc, it sounded like you had an attitude in it. Maybe thats why TRD TC got an attitude toward you. But thats just my guess. Word of advice some people are very touchy so watch how you word replies. |

Hehe. Let-s go easy on the guy. Don-t need any more new people running off and switching their user names than we already have.SWTC. I-d also like to welcome you to the forums. If you haven-t received a warm welcome thus far, I apologize. Just a suggestion for future posts: I understand you-re trying to help by giving advice, but it-s also important that you phrase it with caution. For example, instead of saying, -Your glass is going to break, sucks for you,- you could have phrased it like such: -I-ve heard from some fairly reliable sources that this is not good for the windows. In fact, they told me that it could cause the window to break.- Something like this would then be followed by constructive talk and debate, which is what we-re here for. Now, I-m not trying to lecture you and if it seems that way, I-m sorry. But if you were to post courteously with care for the sensitivities of others, I-m sure people would treat you with much more respect. Well, good luck to you then.As for tinting the sunroof, if it keeps out more sunlight, more power to you. Thanks for the info, AlmostJake. |

They do make a tint that is reflective on the outside that won-t be absored by the glass but reflect the UV rays away. |

hrmm this sounds like a science experiment i did back when i was like 12 with cans and the soil i put in them's temp. the cans w/ black all around heated up the fasted... but the cans with the reflective covering heated up the slowest but got the hottest... go figure. to each there own, but if it was me, i wouldn't tint the sunroof, but then again i only live in nyc, where we actually have seasons. |

Everyone...Lets review some physics. The thermal expansion caused by the temperature change is NOT enough to break anything. Less than a millimeter if that. Id be more worried about the film being prone to other things like bubbling... |

Not so much to think about with thermal expansion...as we have tempered glass... we have the ability to flex more, so rapid temperature changes don't affect glass *of course, from cold to hot, or hot to cold in under 1/2 a second will shatter it u warm water in the witner people!* |
