Loud low pitched huming during heavy braking, Normal ABS?

I recently had to brake hard in my new tC and noticed that the brakes make a loud low pitched humming noise when pushed hard. It sounds a little like a harmonica. Is this the normal sound of the anti-lock brakes? I-ve driven cars with ABS before and never noticed a noise like this.Thanks.

Very slow. About 10 miles per hour. I can reproduce it by braking hard in the parking lot.

How many miles do you have on the car?

I have about 850 miles on the car. The brakes normally don-t make any noise during braking, and I hadn-t noticed anything for the first 800 miles, though I hadn-t needed to brake quickly before now.Is this noise not something that you-ve noticed on your own car?If not, I-ll take it in to the dealer to have it looked at. I just didn-t want to take it in if it was a normal characteristic of the ABS system.

You probably want to take the car to the dealer - could be an ABS sensor. It sounds way too early to have a warped rotor. Check the following:The ABS light isnÂ’t on?You only get the hum when braking hard? From what I remember from working at Sears Auto Center a few years back...Cars with ABS should have a check every time you start your car and you hit about 5 MPH for the first time. You should hear a humming sound for about 2 seconds. You shouldn-t hear any other humming after that.I don-t have my tC yet, so that is all the info I can give based on past experience.

tC should have ceramic pads. Pads will generally squeak when cold from brake dust around the rotors/calipers. Once they warm up and the dust moves, you shouldnt hear anything.
