Just bought a new pressure brake bleeder so when I get it, I'll be bleeding my brake fluid as well as my clutch line. I am going to replenish the system with some DOT 3/4 compliant fluid to have a nice, stiff pedal both in clutch and brake.

What? No more need for water bottles and another person to pump the brakes?

Nah, that way doesn't truly get out ALL the old fluid. This way will force all old fluid out of the system with constant pressure and a one-way force.

Gonna get the Valvoline DOT 3/4 fluid from Autozone tomorrow so when the pump comes in, I can just flush the system the same day/night. I'd get the Motul fluid, but I don't feel like having to order anything online and waiting longer.

I wish I would stop buying things but items like this can be used for MANY types of cars so....I can just keep the tools as the cars change.

Scratch the Valvoline DOT 3/4 I was going to purchase...

Amsoil Series 500`High performance DOT 3

Dry boiling point: 525 F
Web boiling point: 313 F

Best of all....it's local and at the Salvo Auto Parts down the road from me !! Not too pricey either: $6.35 per 12 oz. bottle. They have a DOT 4 racing fluid with a DBP of 580 F and WBP of 410 F. That's pretty damn high but costs more. So, I'll get the DOT 3 that has higher boiling points than the DOT 4 I'm using now anyways.

Amsoil just has some gooooooooood stuff .

How much is that? Why not just get the Motul RBF600 DOT4 Fluid?

And Regular bleeding can get out all of the old fluid from the system. I bled out ALL of my brake fluid when I changed my brake lines. Many prefer this over pressure bleeding.

Gravity bleeding does not force all the fluid out of the valves in the ABS modulator. Vacuum bleeding can damage the valves in the ABS modulator b/c they are one way valves and with suction in the opposite direction, internal damage can occur....expensive part FYI. 2 man bleeding can get most of it out but you do not have constant pressure and can keep air in the system along with some contaminants.

It came out to 85$ shipped.

I don't have a local dealer that sells Motul around here and I don't want to order it online and wait. The Amsoil DOT 3 has MORE than enough boiling point resistance for what I would need it for so spending more money on DOT 4. About 15-20$ for a 12 oz. bottle of that will buy me almost 3 of the DOT 3 Amsoil fluid that still have boiling points well over what my car will ever see....even while racing it on a road course.

If I had a one car lift and some drums to store use fluids, I'd be doing this already!

I replaced all my bleeder screws when I did my wilwoods & power slot plus rears a while ago. It made bleeding stupid simple.

I got them in stainless... just because I'm cool like that.

Speed bleeders are a nice touch and yeah, they definitely make the process a hell of a lot easier.....and a bit neater.

Kris, I'll take a look at Advanced but now that I know Amsoil has brake fluid, I am drawn to them. Amsoil has AWESOME products and I've been extremely satisfied with them. I may actually go back to their oil and switch to a 5W-40 for better operating temperature viscosity but am not sure yet. As of right now, Amsoil is all that goes into my transmission...which I have to change in about 6K .

Gonna stick to some 5W-30 fully syn Amsoil from now on (better wear protection than Mobil 1 Extended performance...and 10 cents cheaper per bottle!) and am looking at Prestone DOT 4 syn brake fluid:

500 dry boiling point
311 wet boiling point

Amsoil had a 525 dry/ 313 wet, which really isn't much difference at all.

Motul 600 is 593 dry/ 420 wet (and cost a crap load) but is pointless for daily driving....more of a race ONLY setup. I figure that if your brake fluid were to get that hot while driving normally or even playing around sometimes, you might want to take your foot off the brake as you accelerate!

Valvoline DOT 3/4 is 480 dry/ 311 wet. Similar to the Prestone DOT 4 but comes in larger bottles as well.

As for right now, for practical reasons I may just get either the Prestone or Valvoline. Both are priced very reasonably (about 5-6$ per 12 oz. bottle as opposed to almost 20$ for a 12 oz. bottle of Motul 600) and I would be able to perform more flushes throughout the year without breaking the bank.

After I get some feedback on the brake lines and clutch line, I'll do the flush and give some feedback on how the pedal feels.

I just flushed my brakes and clutch line . The brakes are a bit stiffer and sitting at a light, I can apply minimal pressure to the pedal while on a hill and not roll back. The clutch line was easy as well and I could feel a consistent pedal difference while shifting. I didn't notice any slight spongyness or give in the pedal as I used to and it's just more of a consistent feel.

It took a bit to get the pressure cap positioned correctly (and I had to take my strut bar off, which sucked) b/c it's a universal head. I may just get another master cylinder cap from Toyota and make a pressure cap fitting instead to make this even easier.

Next up are going to be steel braided brake/clutch lines from Carcandy but I think I'm going to do my axles first.

**I will make a DIY next time b/c tonight it was getting dark fast (damn winter time coming soon) and I was getting pissed off with the pressure cap leaking air....i fixed it though)

Quick question, did you like it? The pressure bleeder?

It definitely made the job easier so yeah. The only thing that I hated was the universal attachment. It was just a pain to get tight and it kept leaking pressure until I got it setup right (20 minutes).

I'm going to buy a spare master cylinder cap and make my own pressure fitting for it for next time though. B/c it's so easy, I may just do this every 6 months with my amount of driving. My neighbor that races his 540i walked over and saw that I bought one and said he's always wanted to get one. He's borrowing it next weekend to see how it is and will probably buy one.....BMWs have specific master cylinder caps too so he'll be able to buy one with that cap already made ....damn Scion/Toyota!
