I saw this quote from Brianc500 and thought I'd share a review of a product I recently found.

Brianc500 wrote:
I always enjoy it when you drain the oil and jusssst when it's about done it hits the frame somewhere and now you have 15 different points where the oil is draining from. So instead of a drain pan, you need a tarp to catch all the oil.

I picked up a Fram Sure Drain system at a local auto store for about 20 bucks. It replaces your plug on the bottom of your oil pan with a 2 part one that has a check valve in it, a cap, and a screw on attachment with a hose that opens the check valve without having to remove the plug.

Here's a couple pics (stock photos I found):

This is a stock photo from google. The correct part number is SD-3.

Here's a pic of the plug under my tC:

The concept is simple. Jack up the car, grab whatever you are using to catch the oil and put it in place, screw off the cap, screw on the drain plug, go drink a beer. This keeps you from having those nasty changes as Brian illustrated in the quote above.

I give the product 4/5 stars. It would have gotten 5 stars, but the hose comes very curved, so twisting on the cap can be interesting if it starts draining when its pointing away from your drain pan. This can easily be fixed or avoided with even a minor amount of common sense. Also it did not come with the little squeeze hose clamp shown in the 3rd picture, but since that is something some one added after the fact I can only say that Fram should have thought of it first.

Holla at me if you have any questions.

I forgot about those things, they rock. I def need one for the cobalt. They hid the drain plug on the side of the oil pan (thanks GM)

Had one on the last car (for a little while), won't be doing it again. The little ball-valve inside the unit basically quadruples the amount of time it takes for the oil to drain completely. And if the oil isn't hot as hell, it takes even longer. You can literally start the draining, go have a sandwich, come back, and it won't be done.

I place it in the "great idea on paper, not so much in action" file.

^^That was an ok trade off for me. It definitely drains slower, but I don't really mind since its mess free. Plus beer goes really good with sandwiches so that's really like an added bonus.

Falkore: I got home at like midnight last night and forgot to check the package, but I'll get the part number after work today.

LOL, no problem! I guess you still have to punch a hole in the oil filter for the E-Z-drain there!!! LOL,jk.
