Picked up a used DC header this weekend for a sweet price and the guy even gave me an anti-fouler with it.

What an easy install! Overall pretty straight forward, the only thing that gave me any trouble was the downstream o2 sensor (the one in the S-pipe) man that thing was on there tight. but after a few hosings of good ol penetrating oil and using a big enough wrench i got it out. So far no CEL, i'm gonna drive about 150 miles tonite, we'll see what happens.

looks good. i was really close to buying a used one myself.

i hear the DC is one of the top rasp producing headers on the market. did you or do you plan on putting a resonator on the midpipe?

Well as far power gains, i barely noticed anything. The car feels like it pulls a little more solid, but its not anything amazing. Not that i expected it to be, it's only a header, and i'm still rockin all stock exhaust. I just had to jump on it because i got it so cheap.

SO, since my exhaust is all stock it's still pretty quiet, i know it's gonna be raspy once i get to work on the rest of it. I do plan on putting a resonator or two in the midpipe to try and combat this problem tho. I can hear a very very slight rasp as it sits, but when you punch it the intake is louder.

I'm happy with it tho, while there isn't much gain running a header into the bottleneck of the stock exhaust, i at least have one more piece of the puzzle.

So a little update:
Over the weekend the CEL came on - about 250 miles after the install. I knew why it came on when it did - i didn't drill out the anti-fouler. The reason i didn't drill it out was because the guy i bought it from said that he ran the header for just under 100 miles, didn't drill the anti-fouler, and never had a CEL. So i figured i would first install it w/out drilling it to see what would happen. But it did eventually come on, so i brought it home and took the anti-fouler off, drilled it out to 1/2" and stuck it all back in. So far so good, altho i only have about 30 miles on it since then. If i make it to 250 miles, i'm golden.

Oh and i reset the ecu this time to clear the code. Man i hate unhooking the battery, i gotta re-set the radio and do all the chicken dances to get the car back how i like it. what a pain, haha.

Damn....did you put the spacers on the rear O2 sensor or the primary on the header? Some have made the mistake of spacing the primary out rather than the rear sensor. Also, if you're running a stock S-pipe, seems to be that 3 spacers are needed as opposed to 2.

I also bought the same header this spring. I have yet to have it installed. I am waiting till next spring to install the DCSport header and the Magnaflow muffler all in one shot. Everything from the header back is going to have to be done custom, plus the exhaust piping too. I am going to try to base the size of my exhaust pipes off the diameter of the header down pipe. I have seen some real shady exhaust installs in my days on kids cars that just bolt on a header and a rice can and call in done. I'm a bit old school and want mine done right the first time and not cut corners on the HP or the setup. Headers are a sweet upgrade, but they don't give back as much HP as some people are led to believe. All we are really gaining is better exhaust flow which is less restrictive, and getting the exhaust gases out of the engine smoother and faster. There will be some torque gains too, but not enough to really notice. I also have to keep the CAT because living in NY state, the laws are so strict on emissions, and I really don't need the hassle trying to find some shop to pass my car w/o a CAT. Also when installing headers DO NOT wrap the headers in heat tape. That is the worst thing you can do. You end up traping the mositure under the tape and in the end you will ruin and rust the header out. I plan on sending my header out and have jet coated. There are some sites out there that will jet coat headers and other things which will really cut down on the heat emitted from headers. Ceramic coating is good, but I feel jet coating would even be better. In time the ceramic coating will weaken, and not disapate the heat as well. I mean any header will tarnish and get discolored due to heating and cooling. I also know that headers are based on two set ups. (1) 4-2-1 and (2) 4-1. I would get a header for what performance gains you are looking to get out of the ride.

^LLLLLOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG paragraph!!!...haha

Good info but about the header wrap, it's ok if you make sure you prep the header. Operatic told me he has been running header wrap on his car for 4 years now (although it only sees dry days). I wrapped mine up about 3 weeks ago and since then, we have had 3 HUGE storms and Hurricane Hana come up the coast. We had a hefty amount of rainfall with them all.

The trick I made sure to do is put on SEVERAL coats of high temp heat spray. I believe I put 6-7 nice coats under the wrap...then I wrapped the header...and then another 6-7 coats on top of the wrap to weather proof it further. It's been about 2000 miles (maybe just a bit under that) of highway driving in rain storms and dry weather too....inspected the welds and peaked under the wrap to see the paint still nicely adhered to the metal and all the welds looks perfect. No excess sputter sound from any potential cracks but I am continuously monitoring it.

**Jethot coating is a great idea to make sure that the heat is sealed INSIDE the header.

haha, yea man. huge paragraph. I'm with ya on the old school thing, doing it right the first time, doing it all at one time idea. But i was short on cash, and had the header, and i really hate to see parts just lay around. So i threw it on, no big deal. It's such an easy swap that when it comes time to deal with cali emissions i can just put the stock mani back on. And yes, headers alone don't do much. But it's all part of a balanced system you know? It's one more piece to the puzzle of makin my car faster. All the little gains add up eventually.

Web - i'm not sure exactly what anti-fouler i got goin on right now. It looks like one piece, but its about 2" long. I'll look up those PNs in the DIY thread and go check out kragen and see what looks good. You're runnin this header right? Which anti-fouler are you using?
Oh and of course i put it on the downstream o2, not the primary. Putting it on the primary doesn't make any sense when you think about what you are using the anti-fouler for.

I have an HPR header and never had a CEL ever with it. If you check the DIY section here, there a linked thread to the SL thread of installing your exact header. It has the part numbers for the antifoulers from autozone (the ones I used). But as I said, if you're running a stock S-pipe, users on here have found that it takes 3 antifoulers rather than 2 to cure the CEL.

Good luck

If you're using a stock S-pipe, then that should have taken care of it. Good luck
