Port & Polish The Head (has anyone done this?)

Has anyone attempted/completed a port & polish? From my understanding this is a low cost modification that can yield results for both n/A & turbo cars.

I remember an old thread discussing this, just wondering if anyone has completed with results.

Soon, very soon.

I've been talking to ptuning about getting this done for my upcoming n/a build project. They seem to be BSing a bit about getting back to me because they are trying to finish their race car.

I'm going to call them next week since they should be completed their stuff by then and I will keep you posted. Its no sectret that our head is extremely restrictive being an FE model with no GE alternative. I would think that a PnP with a good tune should yield some significant results.

I've been following numerous threads about this on Scionlife, but the OP eventually dies or stops posting Haven't seen or heard anyone successfully porting their head.

our heads are cast aluminum. it should be easier to do. aluminum is a softer metal.

wow that's a lot of money for something you can do yourself. I'd rather spend the $1500 on an air to liquid intercooler.

Scratch that, I looked at Dezod's site to see what's included and it doesn't seem that bad if you know what you're doing.

I don't think the 1500.00 pricetag is referring to solely porting and polishing the head. One shop that I talked to quoted me 1200 to pnp and fully rebuild the head, upgrading everything except for the cams. A simple pnp should be in the neighborhood of 300-400.

^I noticed that after I took a closer look. A simple pnP can be done with normal tools and some time.

^Plus tune b/c your A/F ratio will be all off if you just slap the ported/polished head right back on the car and drive.

Absolutely. My biggest problem has been finding someone who will do just the pnp. I can swap the valves, springs, etc. Every shop I talk to wants to sell me their "stage 3" package. I tell them I only want a stage 1 and they tell me they don't have one, lol. Then I always curse them out after asking them how the hell they can have a stage 3 then?!?!? LMAO

lol, stage 1 doesn't exist because it's not profitable enough?

So they'll call it Stage 3 and charge triple the price.

the only difficult thing i seen and heard about is that no matter how hard u try u will never get each cylinder to flow the same and frankly just isn't cost effective unless there are no aftermarket heads out there that flow better and u have a cam to match it( i haven't done any research on the heads cuz i don't feel like going on a treasure hunt myself)

^^No factory produced or aftermarket heads for the tC. A few companies pnp stock heads and build them up.

I'll have an update on my progress real soon!
