I've been considering getting a short shifter for my car, possibly one of the Doc I packages... but I'm just wondering, does anyone have any complaints about short shifters in general? be it any brand? Or has anyone had any problems with theirs? Although I can't even imagine any possible problems myself... Or has anyone gotten a short shifter, and decided to go back to OEM? Just thought I'd get some feedback before I decide to add it to my list of possible future mods. =D Go slammed, flush, and be happy. |

Hmm, as with most short shifter kits, the shifting becomes a little bit more stiff. Generally, the shorter the stiffer (because you lose leverage). And sometimes, it doesn't feel smooth; like it feels mechanical. I remember the stock shifter feeling organic, very smooth. But then again, shifting the stock shifter was like rowing a boat, haha. ![]() "gonna wash my car before i take a nap.. can't rest well knowing i've got the entire cast of A Bug's Life on my bumper" - Vicious -- Want to post a "For Sale" thread? If you're worried about not liking a short shifter, just don't get one that's too short. Cage bushings are what will truly shorten the throw, and the length of the shifter really doesn't matter. I have the TRD kit which is basically the same height as a stock shifter, but the taller cage provides for about a 20% throw reduction. Shortening the length of the shifter doesn't change the throw, it only changes your amount of leverage. ............... ![]() ![]() ![]() Search or one of these adorable kittens WILL DIE! |

I have the Doc I SS with the 1.5" drop, running the half inch spacers, so I have netted around 1" of drop. The shifting is much stiffer and more mechanical like mentioned above. I do not regret going SS, but if I could do it again, I would go .5" drop and then run the spacers keeping it about the stock height. I also got the Doc I weighted shift knob, and really like how it changed the way the shifts feel. It is much more effortless and I wouldn't do it again without going with a weighted knob. |
