As reported by Autoblog.com

When a BMW 335i owner in Munich became bored with his black coupe, he hired a team to wrap it in white tape. Two days later, he drove home in his refreshed "Alpine White" coupe (with an M3-appearing black roof). No, it's not normal tape. It's a special 3M wrap, and the process is known as "foiling." Apparently, the German military has been using the process (with an olive drab tape) for some time now. Likewise, the process is popular with race teams and taxi companies. Available in countless colors, the tape itself is thick enough to protect the paint from minor chips and nicks, and it can be left adhered to the surface for 3-4 years without damage. Adhesion isn't a problem either, as the tape can even withstand an automatic car wash without peeling off.

I guess in Europe it only cost around 1000 Euros to get it done. Which is about 1,546.40 in US Dollars.

^That's not bad in pricing b/c when you look at getting a clear bra installed on a Porsche/BMW, it's about 1300. So, for 200 more, you can get an entirely new "paint job" that is actually protecting your car.

It DOES look extremely nice when professionally done.

Complaining is futile when you supported the victory.

I think it would be a nice way to constantly change the look of a vehicle for shows and what not. Without having to spend a huge budget on getting it painted.

Or like Web mentioned, a great way to protect the paint of the vehicle. Imagine selling a car after 4 years with a perfect paint job, like it was new from the factory. I think the 1500 bucks you would spend on the Foiling would be returned back in the resale value being higher.

I am looking for an inexpensive way to change the color of my car. But it seems road junk and pebbles dirt etc would chip scratch this tape making it look bad I can be wrong but how strong can a wrap be? If I am completley wrong the price is very reasonable.

How weird, I was just thinking about that on the way in to work this morning. About wrapping your car in vinyl instead of painting ut, That looks bad ass though! You can't even tell it's not paint!

Hey Becka, didn't you just move to Germany?

Cuz that's were they have been doing a majority of this type of work. You probably could have one of the 1st tC's to have that done.

Come on you know you want to...lol

EDIT: Nevermind it's one of the other girlies on here that moved to Germany... Oooopsie my bad...

A bunch of my friends went to school with someone who does this over here. He has his Jeep and one of his trucks wrapped. It's pretty interesting.

I probobly wouldn't put a buffer to it. It's similar to vinyl, so it's not hard like paint. You'd melt it right into your paint job.
