So today I was messing around with my stock TC and I was looking at the stock intake. Well when it comes from the throtle body to the air box where the filter is it is extended by another plastic tube toward the left fender. Well I tought that is an extra bend in the intake that I really dont need. Besides it was probably just for sound dampening. Anyway I removed it and took a drive in it aroud the block and from like 2500 rpm thru the red line It got this awesome sound. Did not really feel a performance increase but the sound is awesome and the way I look at it is the air is still going thru the filter so no harm done. No CEL's come on. So anyone with stock TC should give it a try. I like IT

It's the silencer. I took it off too. I hope you caped the open whole left behind.??? You can mess up you're engine if you didn't. I used a 2" grommet painted it flat black.

what do you mean caped? if you close of that hole you wont get any air into your airbox so its pointless.

You're bypassing the standard air induction that goes through the filter. The air is going to come from the whole left behind and since there is no filter you'll get all kinds of crap in your engine. I'll post a picture later so you know what I'm talking about.

^^^^^ Scratch that. We were talking about two different things. Yes that plastic pipe goes down to your fender. I didn't take that one off thou. You can remove the silencer which is what I was talking about. It'll sound a little bit louder but no performance increase.

Well first put the MAF sensor back on, and then look further down to the right side until you see a big box looking thing with little metal clamp things holding it down, NOW DONT TOUCH THAT!! what you want is the little pipe that is coming out of that it should have some gray sponge type of stuff kinda peeking out of it. It is held in by two plastic screw things that you dont even need to touch to pull it out. Just yank on it slowly and it should pull right out.

The silencer also acts as a moisture collector to prevent excess moisture to enter the throttle body. Removing it really won't do anything negative for the car. It's basically making yourself a cheap intake. No worries....a few people on here have the silencer removed and closed off.

Complaining is futile when you supported the victory.

Thats the factory CAI. Its just an extra pipe running into the fender to suck "colder" air into the intake.

This silence that everyone is talking about is a small three inch box to the left of the filter box. Its the only little box coming right off of the bend in the intake.
