THOUSANDS OF KITS????????????

That implies, there are atleast 2000 kits out there for ZPI. There is no way possible. ZPI couldnt keep up with a dozen orders at a time, let alone 2000 of them in a years time frame. 2000 kits at say an average of $3000 a kit would mean in a year ZPI did $6,000,000 in business for tCs alone!!! Not to mention theye were huge into the Neons, Subies, Evos.

ZPI was NEVER a million dollar company. They were a simple .LLC.

Your numbers are WAY off!!!

For the record, I would just like to say that it's not the turbo kit that blows engines, its the tuner. I believe that was mentioned by ScionUnderground when he said the Dezod kits blew 4 engines as of late.

No one has knocked the tuning of ZPI. Its been the kits that we knocked. And its funny how Scionundergorund was happy to point out the Dezod kits with blown engines. If the kit doesnt blow the engine, and the tuner does, then DEZOD has NEVER blown an engine. They dont do tunes!!!!! Unless you fly them out personally like someone did!! He had no issues. The Dezod west team did have an engine blown. But it was also driven by the owner before the tune was completed!!!!

Routinely made more HP? There weren't really any other kits out there, other than Turbonetics at the time... and NO, they weren't making more HP with thier turnkey setups. Plus - the manifolds weren't the only things that went bad. They made the downpipes as well and they were one of the things to go quickly as well.

When I got my Stage 0, all the kits that are out now were available. Greddy, Dezod, Turbonetics, Turbo Toyotas, etc.

I hang out pretty often with a group of turbo tC's, each with a different turbo kit. None of them are making 350+whp. I've also never had a problem with my downpipe, and neither have the other ZPI owners that I know.

There were definitely some problems with some of the kits that went out, as is the case with EVERY manmade product. However, it's wrong to take a few examples and superimpose that on thousands of other kits.

But your also not running a turnkey ZPI kit. You are running an upgraded kit that is out of the price range of the other kits available. So its not even comparable.
You say you run with other turbo tCs, and none are make 350+whp. Then you say you know others who have ZPI kits. SO WHY ARENT THEY RUNNING 350WHP????
Any kit can be made to do it, it has nothing to do with the kit. It has everything to do with the tune and how much power the person wants to make!!!! Plain and simple.

ZPI kits do not routinely make more power than other kits, OUT OF THE BOX!!! They make more power once other parts, other tunes are added. And thats just the preference of the owner. Any kit can have the boost turned up, and the af ration leaned out and make larger numbers. It does not make them better.

What makes a kit better is its reliabilty, and if there is a lack of that, its customer service.
Obviously ZPI has ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! They dont even exist!!!

My kit has been reliable, many other ZPI owners say the same thing. Whenever a thread pops up on SL, people come out and say so.

My kit was "right out of the box". Later I changed the piping to run a cold air intake and have space for a few things. I was making 350hp before that though.

And you can't just turn up the boost on any turbo kit and go. If that were the case, Greddy kits would make more hp. They rarely even break 300. Turn the boost up on a Turbonetics kit, and you'll be blowing turbo's all year long.

This is why so many ZPI owners don't post up. People take a few incidents and paint everything else with that broad brush. There are Xbox 360's that have caused their owners a lot of grief, but that doesn't mean I can say all 360's are going to fail.

I agree with you on Customer Service, but that will happen anytime demand grows for a product made by a small company. I'm not excusing them, but that's somethig to be considered when looking for a turbo kit. I can provide lots of examples of poor customer service on just about every turbo company on the market, including one that caused a buyer to blow his engine and sell his car. But even that one incident doesn't supercede the many GREAT customer service experiences.

I've read countless "accounts" of ZPI kits blowing engines. But at this point it's moot. My tC is faster than most with a bolt on turbo kit, and after a year, I haven't had any major trouble. Many others have similar stories, but it's much more fun to jump on the bandwagon and bash a company.

I'm not even going to talk about the Dezod incident and my buddy's tC, I understand that it was an isolated incident even though it was completely their fault. They make great kits, and all my encounters with them have been great.

To be completely honest with you, from all of my experiences, people I know in person, people I know from my various clubs, and reading on SL, ZPI is the most unreliable kit of all of them. More blown engines and turbos and bad manifolds/downpipes than any other company.

Turbonetics is 2nd - they had a ton of blown turbos but not engines from what I can remember. Plus their downpipes did have problems too but that wasn't TOO common.

GReddy has only 1 blown engine that I know of - and that was due to the driver.

I only know of 2-3 Treadstone kits, but nobody has enough miles on them or really pushes them (racing) like other kits.

Sound Performance... nobody I know has it.

TurboToyotas - nothing bad yet - too new.

Dezod - i've heard stories of stuff blowing but that's due to the tuners... dunno what happened to your friend.

You HAVE to look at it this way, though - due to bad customer service and a mediocre product, there's several reasons why ZPI no longer exists.

Oh yes - did you know that their Exhaust products were made by Buschur Racing - owned by the Cousin of the owner of ZPI. Buschur was never paid for all of the equipment they made for ZPI. (need proof on that? Look on yoursciontc.com - buschur's made posts about it).

The product was not mediocre. If it was, it would have stopped selling. When ZPI folded, they were still in very high demand. They did have crappy customer service, and a lot of people had problems receiving their products, but there are other companies now that are in the same position.

I separate their customer service from the actual product. I never dealt with ZPI personally, so their lack of customer service was of little concern to me. However, the kits that I have used have been great, reliable, and less problematic than all of my friends.

Unless you have concrete numbers showing how many kits were sold, and how many were defective, your input is not going to be accurate.

Now if everyone was saying based on THEIR experiences, ZPI was made defective products, I'd be totally fine with that. That's accurate. Saying that ZPI was a crappy manufacturer in general is a bit reaching IMO.

We're also getting conflicting info in this thread. Some say Tuners cause engine's to blow, but you say kits do...

The only thing people need to realize is the face that the customer service was shit. And people ordered and paid for parts and either didnt get their money back or didnt get the parts. You know its very bad when people are making lists of everyone who didnt get money or parts, and then have 10 or so people filing a lawsuit. Now you are saying the product is good, hey thats good for you and congrats that you didnt get screwed by them. But people who dealt with them directly got screwed royally. Hence a lot of negative comments toward ZPI.

No one is denying that they had customer service. When you race someone, you're not going to win based on how much customer service you got, it's all about the performance of the kit.

You can have negative comments about the company. I never dealt with them. Their crappy customer service IMO, has nothing to do with the QUALITY of the kit. That's like saying you don't like McDonalds' food because the speaker you used to order it with was broken...
