well i have been searching for a tc for my fiance and have been calling all around southern california. wel i came across marina del rey scion and asked if they had a flint mica automatic tc....Travis, who was the representitive there told me yes. i asked no other options?? he said -no other options-.well i checked out the marina del rey website and found that they were selling a flint mica for 17900....almost 700 more than their no haggle price msrp. so i decided to chat with a scioon representive...and well...this is how it wentlease wait for a Scion Customer Advocate to respond. You are number 1 in queue. You are now chatting with MoeMoe: Hi christianchristian: hello?Moe: How may I help you today?christian: i have a question regarding msrp pricingMoe: okchristian: the scion tc is listed with an automatic transmission @ 17200...but this dealer at marina del rey is selling one at 17900...stockchristian: i thought all prices were the same for every dealershipMoe: 17265christian: yupMoe: What options do they have on it?christian: they say none...just that it-s automaticchristian: i can send you the linkMoe: That shouldn-t be correct.Moe: Please dochristian: http://marinadelreyscion....w_vehicle_searchchristian: travis, a representative there told me it was an automatic scion tc...stock. but it is listed at 17,915Moe: let me check hold onchristian: my fiance and i were hoping to buy one soon as this seems to be the only flint mica automatic in california available. all others have claimed a 10-12 week waitchristian: thank you so much moe!Moe: None of them have any options mentionedMoe: Did you ask Travis if there are any options on that one.christian: yes...he said it was stock. that is why i am so confused as to the priceMoe: Let me call hold onchristian: thank youMoe: I just spoke to ChristianMoe: He stated that that veh the 17,900 was a vendor vehicle that was sold to a private vendor under special circumstancesMoe: These circumstances are not applicable to the publicchristian: so what does that mean?Moe: The other flint mica is available with options build onMoe: to it Moe: That means it is soldMoe: The 17,900 one is soldchristian: so he doesn-t have the flint mica any longer?Moe: The other one is available with it does have some options.christian: ohMoe: Yes they have one.christian: i was hoping to get a stock oneMoe: It is 20,072christian: yeah..that-s a bit much for my fianceMoe: You would have to order one stock if you wanted one like that. This one has some options already on it.christian: okchristian: thank you moeMoe: No problemMoe: There isn-t any issue here with our pure pricing it looks fine.Moe: Sorry I spoke to TravisMoe: He said he is holding it for ChrisMoe: I don-t know if that is you.christian: i think that is me...he is holding the stock flint mica?Moe: No the one with the accessories.christian: huh? he told me that was stockMoe: Ground effects kit, spoiler, sec sys, wheel lockschristian: oh my godchristian: even my fiance called to make sure that it was a stock automaticMoe: Price is that 20,072Moe: Sorry I-m just the messenger.christian: i know and thank you for being very helpful...you saved me a 16 mile trip and a headacheMoe: No problem.christian: thanks again moeMoe: Thank you for visiting. dealer tricks, why are you so mad? it shoudn-t be anything new to you if you-ve tried to purchase a vehicle before....Scion dealerships wont take out the accessories from the vehicle because 1. They know someone else other than you will buy it if they want the car more. 2. They make more money...They KNOW the tC is selling well, they KNOW they have the power, no way to deal with it but be patient, as hard as that may seem, it pays in the end...I now have my exhaust going in on Monday, and parts dept. has a lot of intakes comming in of which i am #12 in line...funny...because my dealership has only sold sooo many tC-s...haha..must be some other folks...Good luck on the tC find, Flint Mica is a hard color to get, i-d settle with a color less popular...you-ll find yourself in a tC alot quicker.

cvt, I suggest that you make it a point to call travis, maybe even stop by once you do get your tC from somewhere else. and it wouldn-t hurt to tell the General Manager why you didn-t get your car at his dealership, even though I-d guess that travis- -sales tactics- came from the management there.anyway, good luck.

i am mad becuase i have a right to be regadless of what is -expected- from a dealer. plus scion-s policy is no haggle to hassle.....a scion rep seemed upset about it when i talked to her and she has stated that that never should have happened.

Yeah, and people aren-t smoke at gas stations, that happens. And Bathrooms should be sanitary in all resteraunts, doesn-t happen all the time.Grocery Stores should have more than 1 check-out stand open, sometimes that never happens.You-re suppose to TIP your waiter 15% (yes i know its optional) but even if the service was exquisite, some people don-t tip...Things don-t alwyas go your way...You-re going to meet people who DEFY what is -STATED-, and thats what makes life interesting...I wanted my tC w/ just the exhaust, had to settle with the lip spoiler too.. Dealers lie, this is nothing new to the car buying community. thats why alot of people/.business try to take the hassle out of it by being the middle men (ie: costco, etc. etc.)Scion TRIED w/ the pure pricing, and no haggle, doesn-t mean its gonna happen. S/C was suppose to be here OCTOBER, delayed again...Gran Turismo 4 was suppose to be here too.... Blah.

I-ve read through this thread and, having placed an order w/a San Diego dealer about a month ago and not having seen any results yet, I-m inclined to believe that Toyota has spun a pitch that sounds good, but doesn-t have 100% honest follow through. Essentially it has all the appearances of a well contrived marketing scheme, which may be working to their end of not commiting to more production than necessary. The practice of mono-specificationed cars (one flavor) sounds good, but if a purchasers ordered configuration is months away, the dealership is at an advantage with offering a -loaded- car. The question is then, when did the -loading up- of the car occur. From all thats been printed, the options other than tranny and color are a dealership add-on. If cars are arriving and be -optioned up- before being offered to the waiting customer, then it appears Toyota is near the threshold of false advertising. If that-s in fact what is happening here, then it appears on the surface to be very carefully crafted sales/production coordination, at best. At worst, depending on who does the interpretation of what has been printed , circulated and ultimately signed by potential customers, the Federal Trade Commision or the US Attorney Generals- designee may have an opinion that could revise Toyotas- representation of the program to the consumer. That might put this thing in the more correct perspective of what the corporation is doing for dealers first, then customers orders second. If thats how they want to present it, then they-re no different from any other company, except that for now they have a hot product. They might loose market share when the public decides its not worth waiting for, but apparently Toyota sees it as a good gamble. BTW, TRD-tC, don-t take this personally, but your responses in this thread sound conspicuously close to -the company line-; you sound very close to what I might expect from a shill planted at this site by Toyota. It should be no secret to any of us, but this is a common practice by corporations to quell public sentiment or initiate confidence in the market. But don-t take offense if that-s not the case. It-s just an observation on my part.Respectfully,Patrick

On their website they say -pure-pricing- is designed because many customers have said that they don-t want the hassle of trying to haggle a price down. In reality this seems to me to be just an excuse for them to get a standard amount for their car. Anyone whose ever bought a car knows that beating the dealer into a good price is part of the FUN of car shopping. Going from dealer to dealer to get the best price is just the name of the game. Ive haggled plenty of dealers down and the fact is Toyota just doesnt want any of its dealers selling cars for less and eating up the market while leaving other sellers unhappy. Pure pricing sure looks like an oligopoly between dealerships to me.

Look at the price of the tC and compare it to other cars feature to feature. I think they did a great job pricing it. An example, I could build up a Neon R/T with all the options that the tC has and it would be 30hp/tq slower, ugly, and cost $3,000 more than the tC. I-ve been planning on buying a car for awhile and have been comparing things like that on a lot of cars. The tC is priced great. The idea behind pure pricing is to ease new car buyers into the market hoping they-ll stay within the brand later, most definetly not to screw you.
