Ugh to both!

Mobil 1 used to be one of the top oils on the market until Mobil and Exxon combined to ExxonMobil. Now they suck. C'mon Ferrari used to only use Mobil 1 and recommended it to only be used in their cars but now it's Quaker State. That should let you know that if Ferrari prefers QUAKER STATE over Mobil 1 now then there is a good reason ahaha!

Royal Purple usually contains graphite in all their products. This is beneficial for lubrication and everything for that specific time but after use the graphite will increase wear on the internal components. I used Royal Purple in my trans for a bit but after time my trans did not feel right. Swapped to Lucas Oil and it made a huge different.

IMO I prefer Valvoline. I only use SynPower and love it. Never a problem and been using it in three cars that I have owned.

Thats what I use. Its affordable, easy to find, good quality.

And I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between most motor oils, haha.

Mobil 1 with OEM filter.

Royal purple is not a good choice due to the graphite DSM mentioned. Great lubricant but horrible when it builds up and hardens into almost concrete.

mobil1 = exxon = 75% market share in gas = HIGH gas prices = im not gonna buy either exxon or mobil products....we all gotta quit feeding the beast. my .02 on that.

i have heard that the royal purple is good though.

i guess royal purple is out the window. is that true that some oil can actually improve mpg bcoz of better engine combustion? if there is, will mobile 1 do that for me?

That theory lies behind the oil's viscosity. The thicker the oil, the more the engine has to work to move the internals through it. Just think of how hard it would be to swim through cream cheese as compared to water. The thinner the oil, the faster the internal components can move, and as the theory goes, the better mpgs you get out of the engine. But, the downside to thin oil is that it burns off faster as well.

Thicker oil is more resistant to thermal breakdown due to it's higher viscosity, but also robs the engine of it's possible power output.

The best thing for our engines would be to run a moderately thin oil but not too thin. 5W-30 is usually the best grade to go with due to it's low cold start viscosity and decent operating temperature viscosity and thermal breakdown properties.

Unless you're turbo or S/C or live in either Arizona or Maine, I'd stick with 5W-30 for our engines. Hotter climates can deal with thicker oils b/c initial viscosity (xW) is not as important as operating temperature viscosity (-x0). Colder climates want a thiner oil that has a lower cold start viscosity so that the oil can get pumped through the block faster to lube critical engine components.

Hopefully this helps.

Oil Changer

Also not to mention w/ thicker oils, it takes longer for the oil to get from the oil pan, to the oil pump, to the engine, due to being much thicker. Thicker oil will kill engine performance and also gas mileage. Pending on where you live, thicker oils are not always bad. Hot climates, you'll want a thicker oil. Cooler and really cold climates you do not need thick oil. Most cars/trucks run better on 5w30, compared to pre 1989 when most cars/trucks were 10w30. Oil has come a long ways from yrs ago when our parents were our ages. Oil lasts much longer and holds up better. Plus more abuse can be taken w/ todays oils, than from before. In my opinion all oil is not the same and neither is gas that we burn in our engines. It all comes down to the ingredients/additives.
