The exhaust tone from the VQ35 motors are unique to G35s and 350zs. I'm sure something can be fabbed up to sound similar but not the same.

Part a majority of an exhaust tone is produced by the engine itself, you'll notice a vehicle like a Mustang Cobra produces a very deep tone and slow rumble.

Another factor is the G35 Coupe uses a split Y dual tone to create their unique sound.

You can come close with an axle back that as a low noise low rasp tone.

Dude, I've been looking for the same thing, haha. Im sure its possible to get something close.

I mean, I dont think the sound is 100% motor dependant. The 2008 Maximas have a VQ series motor, and they sound nothing like G35s or 350zs, haha.

I've heard a few people say that the Magnaflow exhaust comes closest.

The tone from the G35 350Z (which essentially is the same vehicle) is just too unique.

The coming close means getting America Ferrara when you wanted Jennifer Lopez.

I have driven my car near a few of the G35s and I can say with first hand experience, the Magnaflow sounds pretty damn close to that car. I was in Houston and I heard one take off while I was walking to my car. The Magnaflow is louder, but they have similar tone. One thing with the Magnaflow is this though, when the car is first started up, the Magnaflow has a small bit of rasp, but after about 15 seconds of the car running or so, it goes to a pretty sexy low tone.

No, it's 100% Motor dependent. The VQ "Howl" from 350z's, G35's, Muranos, etc is due to the engine and the exhaust manifolds.

Why do you think Nissan's have their howl, Subies have their rumble, and Civics have their whine?

^^ was just about to mention the unique sexy rumble of the subie's boxer engine

yes.. it IS motor dependent..

you want to sound like a G35? go out and buy one. so don't whine like a civic... you'll be able to get a low rumble from our engine..

but comparable to a G35? not very likely... if you want to believe it so... then sure. can't stop you there.

the dude isnt trying to say he wants the EXACT same sound just one similar ( deep low tone with little rasp) Wich is very EASY to aquire and im surprised no one has answered it. First off I gotta say the best sounding exhaust Ive heard for a TC is the Skunk 2, I think its a axel back. If you go on youtube and search TC exhaust you will find a buncha videos of exhaust's. Check out skunk 2 and Injen. Also to lessen the rasp and create a deeper tone you need a glasspack or a resonator. You would have to replace you mid pipe to install one cause it goes right there in the middle. I guess if you use 2 in a row it would be really smooth and deep. Ive heard a car with one but it had the crappy (my opinion) HKS exhaust so it didnt sound as good as it should of.

Check out cherry bomb resonators also look into having a custom cat back made.

Haha this post makes it sound like a damn liar. I have had my car next to a G35, and Im telling you, from personal experience, the sound is pretty damn similar. Its not the same sound, and I will never claim that it is, but from what I have heard, the Magnaflow on the tC gets the sound that is closest to the G35.

Please re-read the original post

yep, it has to do with the stroke of the motor, porsches have a pancake motor like the subbies but their stroke isnt as long, therefore thats why they don't have the low growl that subaru's have.

There isn't anything that even comes close to the sound of the G35/FX35/Infinity Coupe.

edit

as I said before, coming close means getting a cheap imitation that's far from what you really wanted.

It's a 6 cylinder. A 4 cylinder sounding like that is nearly impossible. Most N/A 4 cylinders all sound similar. Except the subie's with those boxer motor. But mentioned above i agree with its engione dependent

Neither sounds anything like it. The G35 sounds kinda like a horn almost.

Um......is it just me or does that sound NOTHING like a G35? I'd have to say FAIL on the part of a tC with Skunk 2 exhaust piping sounding anything like a G35.

Greg50Lt had the Skunk2 setup on his car with a Megan header and Spipe and that did not sound ANYTHING AT ALL like a G35. It had it's own sound but clearly not a G35. The low grumble exhausts have from a start up is what seems to have everyone thinking they can get a G35 sound from their tC. Good luck but no dice.

The only time we would get a G35 sound would be from immediate startup and that's about it. After that, our 4 cylinder engine just doesn't help out the sound for our exhaust. Engine has a good bit to do with exhaust sound, but exhaust piping and features (CATs, resonators...) also add to it.

OP: Keep a well tuned setup and do NOT go open pipes (no resonators or CATs) and you will have a "somewhat" G35 sound for a little. But don't get your hopes up.

Full custom is my opinion if you want to get your own tone. Only people that have heard my exhaust can say how it sounds b/c video does nothing but distort the quality of all sounds.

If you use your imagination really hard some of those exhausts sound like a 350Z.

I mean REALLY use your imagination hard, like imagine you're actually driving a whole other car.
