ipod not working with nav unit

I just installed a kenwood dnx5120 dvd/nav unit in my tc and everything works ok except for two things. Most importantly the ipod is not working. This unit uses usb to connect devices to it and i figured that if i just take my usb cable that came with my ipod it will work. But it didn't. Now is this because the ipod will only work with kenwoods specific usb cable? or is there something wrong? Now, less importantly I connected my sub rca cables to the sub preouts but they're not getting any signal. I tried to turn the subwoofers on through the unit but the button is disabled for some reason. I checked my amp and it is getting power. Just no signal. Any ideas why this would be happening? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Get the cable from the manufacturer and it should work. Is funny that sometimes they offer USB but the HU does not recognize anything connected to it but MP3 files and picture files.
