I'm planning on buying a kenwood dnx5120 because I really like the nav unit and i already have kenwood subs but I have some questions on the installation of it. First of all what am i going to need for the installation. Mounting kit? Wiring harness? I'm not sure. I did a subwoofer install on my car in which i had to tap into the rear speakers for the output signal because I have an 07 tc and it doesnt have the sub outs. Is the wiring on this install going to be any similar or is it just a matter of plugging in the stock harnesses into the back of the unit. Also I want my steering wheel controls to keep working, and the door to close on the unit, and I don't want to have to pull the handbrake to watch a movie. Someone said the handbrake thing had to do with where you ground the unit. Either way i'd really appreciate any one who can help me with this.

Your gonna need a wiring harness yes! you dont want to be cutting into the wiring harness to match all that stuff up to the new headunit. most after market HUs need a mount kit as well. THe door should still close on the unit b/c its a flush unit. However your steering wheel controls wont work with the new unit unless you hack the wires.

Also, depending on the new head unit you will be takin your line converter out and go to just using the RCA out jack on the back of the unit...This will also make your subs sound better.

They have a module made by PAC that works with most aftermarket decks to use the steering wheel controls. I have a top end Kenwood deck, and it is compatible with the PAC module. Do a google search on it and you will find the site. I would do it for you but Im at work and have limited internet site access.

Whenever upgrading to a DVD/NAV unit you will lose ur steering will controls but like it was said above there are modules you can buy for the steering wheel mounted controls, bluetooth, and Ipod:

Kenwood Excelon DNX8120 is the model i referenced

Kenwood KCA-iP300V - Ipod module (from crutchfield.com)

Sirius SCV1 - Satellite module (from crutchfield.com)

Steering Wheel Module - http://www.crutchfield.co...em/Main.aspx?I=127SWIJACK (this is for the steering wheel module)

hope this helps!

With kenwoods all you have to do is ground the parking brake sensor wire.

.... Take the wire, attach it to somewhere on the car frame touching bare metal... that's how you ground things...

Should be labeled right off the wire harness. I think it's either green or brown.

On the inner side of the passenger side footwell, right behind the carpet that goes into the center console, there is a metal grounding plate. You can use that. That's what I used to ground my headunit. Very convenient.

another thing u can do is jus use the same ground on the radio harness so this way u dnt have to go hunting for a graound i used that ground n i got no feedback or ne thing of that nature n i dnt think ur runnign a hevier system that n me i got five amps n its doing jus fine the wire harness number is twh 950 from american international and the mounting kit u dnt need it if ur doin a flush mount.jus unbolt the factory n bolt the new 1 to that matching the holes or ading new 1s.the radio most likely came with a mount ring on it that fills in the gap around the radio.the only adapter ur ganna need is the sw control from pac i hope this helps
