You want to look at both. The RMS is more important and you want to buy one that is at least the minimum of what your subs need. You actually want to over power your subs by just a little. If you buy a amp that doesn't put out enough power, you can mess up your subs. The peak power of an amp is just that, the peak. It won't put out any more that that, and some amps won't even put out as much as they claim. The RMS is what is constantly put out by the amp. So spend the money and get a good quality amp. I'm getting an idea so ingenious that my head would explode if even began to know what I was talking about.... |

but wen u buy an amp look at wat power it gives u at 4 2 or 1 ohm.thats ganna give u ur answers and also look at wat ohm ur speaker is capable of 1 2 4 or 8 ohms thats ganna determin the power u get out of the amp.
for example a duale 4 ohm speaker goes eathier to 4 or 8 ohms depending how u wire it n a dual 2 ohm goes to 1 or 4 ohms.but the tricky part is when u have 2 speakers.remember 2ohms n 2 ohms become .5 ohms or 4 ohms or 2 ohms when u wire both of them to 4 ohms and when u do 8 ohms n 8 ohms u get 4 ohms but wen u do 2 ohms with 2 ohms u get 1 so watch wat u buy.hope this helps if u need a better breakdown pm me. if its to loud ur to old,n im always up for a battle of sytems r u?repin nasty stylz auto club in brooklyn ny offering led swaps now on mirrors gauges and hvacs (in red only) hit me up for pricing. gaufes done are mine and batmanstc. |

the cheapest way to go if you want is to wire your subs to a 4ohm load and buy a 2 channel amp and just bridge it to the subs. this is cheaper becuz 2 channel amps are cheaper than mono amp. I have two kicker 10' CVR subs powered by a Kicker ZX 450.2 amp. these things kick hard for just a pair of tens. but yea. this is a cheaper way to go. |

but the thing is u bought an amp thats 2 ohm stable meaning tha u bought a package deal from circut city in witch there good but not great. it all depends on the power u want if u wanna play for the town or jus for u. i like to play for the town so mixing it up is always better to go if u wanna go big if its to loud ur to old,n im always up for a battle of sytems r u?repin nasty stylz auto club in brooklyn ny offering led swaps now on mirrors gauges and hvacs (in red only) hit me up for pricing. gaufes done are mine and batmanstc. |

They're cheaper because they aren't as efficient. Mono amps are simple to wire. Make sure they're 2 ohm stable. 2 4ohm speakers wired in parallel (run a positive and a negative lead to each speaker off the amp's terminals) will provide you (generally, and depending on the amp) with the most amount of power. If you want a 4 ohm load, get 2 2ohm speakers, and run them in series (amp positive to positive on speaker 1, amp negative to negative on speaker 2, negative on speaker 1 to positive on speaker 2). A 4 ohm load is generally a little easier on your car's alternator, but the difference is negligible. There's tons of formulas out there for calculating speaker resistance/ohms. Google "speaker wiring" or check out crutchfield's article on it. But all that said, go monoblock - you'll be happier with the power output. Those things are built for subs, whereas a 2 channel are allowing the full speaker range to go through, and you have to turn on the crossover to cut out all the extras. |
