Hey guys it seems i got a slight problem. About 1 month ago I got my car lowered on Tanabe NF 210s. After instalation i noticed that my shocks rattle or make a very loud noise that over powers my steroe . It kinda sounds like my shocks are hitting metal. It seems that this happens to my back ones and front passenger but not front driver side tire. At first i thought it was part of the settling process but when my friend got in and we took a ride he said it wasnt. The noise occurs whenever my shocks move it doesnt need to be pot holes or bums nessesarily. Is this a price you pay when get lowered with springs or is something wrong here?

Thats not normal. You may need to have your springs checked over. When shocks bottom out, it sounds loud and you'll feel it.

no cuz i got my h tech lowerings springs about a few months ago and they make no noise and do not rattle and some people have had theres for years with no problems. you must have something loose on your springs. make sure all the bolts are tightened correclty

That's not normal. Bring your car by and I'll take a look and make sure everything is tight. Sounds like I just need to retighten your top mount bolts.

the nut holding the strut together at the top is loose. the front is easy, just remove the cowl and hit the nut with an impact (it wont work by hand)! the rears might be a bit of a challange if you left that cap on, if so you have to remove the whole strut and tighten it. if you left the cap off then all you have to do is pull the stuff out of the rear and hit the nut again with an impact and an extension. you might need a swivel socket!

No, none of the nuts are loose. Mine do the exact same thing but mainly on the driver's side where the weight is (me). When going over a hefty bump with a bit of momentum, the spring will compress quickly and cause a spring clap. That's why Stechs and other brands sometimes have those spring wraps you can put on. The pain is that the spring has to be taken off to put them on, but it works. It's just a rubber sleeve that goes around the coil from the top. I've heard this on many different cars and that seemed to take care of it. Mine has gone away (or I just drive easier) unless I go on a cobble stone road or hit a nice pot hole (both of which I really try to avoid).

^They are called Coil insulators.

Don't go gun-ho about tightening bolts either. Overtightening bolts can be just as bad as undertightening them too. If it's a metal clap you're hearing, THAT can be considered somewhat normal. If all of them are shaking/vibrating/clapping, then get it checked out.

Andy is on vacation were metting next monday so he can check it out. The noise sounds like you had a subbwoofer in the back with none of that edead padding, and it occurs during normal driving not even bumps just even roads. Weve cut it down buy ear to the right side of the car. Ill give you guys an update next Monday when andy checks it out.

Hmmm.....then this sound may be loose bolts. If it was only when going over large bumps/potholes and sounded like a slight metal clap, then it would be relatively normal until the springs soften a bit (wear in). This is NOT normal.

Check the bottom bolt on the rear struts as well b/c it has a lock nut. If it's not up to about 155 ft/lbs of torque, it could be loose.

Tell him also to make sure he tightened the sway bar end links back up. Gotta use an alan key as well as an open headed wrench.

Like others have said, it's not normal. I would bring it back to where you had it installed. It maybe that the springs are not seated properly. Or they put the shock assembly back together in the wrong order.

I have a feeling it's going to be the sway bar end link as mine came loose for some reason as well and make a clicking noise. I'll check everything out tomorrow when I take a look at his car.

Good deal...........I triple checked my setup and didn't find anything loose but noticed that over a cobble stone road, the driver's front spring makes a clap sound. It did it for a while (maybe 2-3 months) but no longer. I checked the spring and strut and all is fine.

im not too sure, but make sure the bolts are fully tightened, but if not, it would rattle.

UPDATE
Alright so Andy checked it out and after hours of trying and checking I still have the this annoying sound. The sound is now only the front passenger side. So i took my camera to work and on the way back shot some of the it. The noise that souns like popcorn popping is my spiring/strut. As you can see I dont have to be going over bumps. Im getting desperate if I cant fix this im going to buy coilovers.........

Ok, that's not normal. Sounds like a transfer from the firewall or from the subframe. Do you have an ETD that was moved around prior to install for some reason? Sounds like you have a bad end link.

I assume you reassembled the strut correctly when you put it back together? The spring is perched properly, all bushings are in place?

And, when your springs were installed, were they keyed (lined up) to your shocks in the same spot as your factory springs?
