I believe they send back brand new 360s, and use your old 360 for parts on other ones. I could be wrong though.

isnt the red ring ring of death actually only three sections lighting up..cause my xbox that i had since the release of the 360 finally died on me for good. im out of warranty and i restarted and everytime it still did it. but then it came up with this screen saying call xbox support. so since i was out of warranty i just said f&*k it and bought an elite =].that thing is soo sick and much cooler and more powerful. less lag during games especially when messaging and shit during a game. the only bad part is if you want to transfer all your old data from the 20GB to the new 120GB you have to fill out this form and send it or fax to xbox and theyll verify you upgraded and then they will send you a free data migration cable..

The Microsoft warranty for the red ring of death has been extended from the 1 year factory warranty, to a 3 year warranty. Go sign up to have it fixed on the xbox site, no questions asked and no hassle.

Yes, it will show as your warranty being expired. There should also be some text somewhere on the site saying to disregard this warning, or that you may still be in warranty. When you put your information into the system for them to ship you the box to send the xbox off in, it will tell you that you may still be in warranty. You then click the choice saying 3 red rings or something like that, saying that you need to have it repaired because of that particular issue. The balance owed will then drop to $0.00, they will send you a box via UPS, you put your 360 in the box and ship that sucker off. They give you the package labels, the tape to re-close the box and everything. I forgot to take off my front cover to the 360 that I bought aftermarket, they even sent that back to me in a seperately wrapped package. Real simple, gosta sign up dude.

Ive owned a total of 6 xbox 360s 3 of which I currently own. All have broken down on me. It will take about 2 to 3 weeks or if your unlucky like me a whole month.....turned out a UPS employee stole it.....luckily the caught it on video so he got fired and Microsoft gave me a new xbox with a few goodies ;)

Got the RROD today, I'm sad and glad at the same time. Sad that I can't play for 3-4 weeks, but hopeful that I get a new 60gb model for my trouble, since the 20gb are being discontinued.

I know of a couple of people that don't get their original back, maybe it's not a new one, but refurbished. I've got my serial # written down, so I'll see if I get the same box back.

My first Xbox was one of the first consoles released. It ran for almost 3 years without any problems, then i got the RROD. Got it back fixed and sold it for $250. Then I bought an Elite(3 months ago). Last Saturday, I was playing Halo3 online and was in the middle of a game when the picture froze up. The sound was still going, and I could tell I was moving but the pic was stuck. I rebooted and ever since then haven't been able to get any of my controllers to connect, or any video to display. I don't have the RROD, but it's definately a problem. So I called microsoft, sent it off today to be repaired... Turns out there is widespread video card failure on Elites made within a certain time frame. I neglected to get the Bestbuy return program, since my first one(which shouldve died a lot sooner), lasted 3 years. I figured this one would at least make it for 2 years. 3 months must be a record or something.

I was talking to one of my buddies and he had told me he bought his from Best Buy, and bought the warranty. So when his got the RROD all he did was call best buys hotline and send the console to them, then they gave him a gift card for the amount he purchased the original console for. So he was able to get the upgrade to the new 360 for the price of his old one.

Those will be lost for sure. When I sent my console in, they just repaired mine, but it was all good, been running like a champ ever since. They even give you 1 month free Xbox Live when your stuff breaks.
