well i got two subs i forgot what brand it was but i will check on it but i was just wondering if you dont use the right wattage power on it will it damage the subs? i have a Hifonics Brutus 2600w amp. I dont want to damage the subs with a too strong of a amp.

By the way here are the pictures to the subs.I got the dimension from a guy in a car audio thread and custom built a box.

sorry for bad quality. Friends camera phone at night in a living room.

The rms wattage of the subs is what lets u know how much the subs can handle

Look up the RMS wattage on your subs. Also look at what your amp actually puts out. For instance, mine is a 2400W Kenwood amplifier, but at 2 ohms resistance on my subs, they put out 600W to each sub. My subs are 500W rms subs, 1000W max. I push a little more to my subs than is recommended.

You can find out more about what ohm resistance you are pushing to your amp, and how to wire your subs to the amplifiers at www.the12volt.com. They have diagrams of each way to wire the subs to the amp to get different ohm loads on the amp.

In the mean time, find out what ohm loads your amp can handle, and what ways you can wire your subs to that amp. Also find out what type of subs you have, and what ohm loads they are able to run at. Amp + subwoofer wiring and matching is extremely important. If you wire them incorrectly, you can fry your amp or blow your subs, so please be careful.

yeah i know how to wire amp, sub, capacitators, and crossover. I was just making sure about the watts need. my hifonic amp push 1300 2ohm so yeah i just need see how much the subs can handle. i bought this awhile back before i got my car so i forgot what model it was so i need recheck it.

Ok, Im just saying that if you dont know how much your subs can handle, its impossible to know how to wire them correctly. If you can, bridge the subs to the amp to push out some nice power.

After checking up a little bit on the amp, it also says that the amp only pushes 1700W @ 2 ohms. So you are running 850W Max to each sub @ 2 ohms. Which will probably put it at somewhere around 600 RMS or so to each sub.

I edited this post after you posted, just wanted to make sure you knew this about the amp.

i hope the box u built takes in account the thiele small parameters of the sub and is tuned to a frequency that will work with the subs. if the air space and the vent length in the box isn't right for the sub then it can sound like a elephant trying to get out the trunk, in a bad way. an audio system as far as bass is 75% box and 25% subs and amp. vented enclosures like the one you built is more efficient on power usage since there isn't much back pressure on the subs. as far a power goes a little more rms power than required for the subs isn't a bad thing most of the time. when you find the specs on the sub, if the power is too much at low impedence than you can run the system at a 4 or 8 ohm load. it will be less power but if it is a good match for the subs then you will have less distortion which = better sound quality. hifonics amps are beasts. i like them.

yeah i sent the speakers and trunk size to this guy on a speaker forum, and he has some kind program or something and he sent the dimension back to me and i just built it to the correct size. by the way i hook it up and it sounds good. more pic later
