Right, so I have a 2006 tC and the wife has a 2007 tC.

One year ago, I was rear ended by a truck going in the 20mph-40mph range. Ever since then, my brakes under extreme braking conditions completely fail. In a turn, while braking, the brakes will grind.

I thought this was odd. I knew it wasn't normal, but figured it might just be my car... until recently.

My wife got rearended by the Comcast van (going 30-50mph) roughly two months ago. It got repaired. I drove her car today and found that her brakes are acting exactly like my brakes. Grinding in a turn. Her car is a daily driver.

I'm bringing them in to Tejas Toyota. If it was just one tC, I would right it off as a weird coincadence. But it's happening to both my tCs who've both had the same type of accident.

We may have a manufacture defect on our hands.

Anyone have a similar problem due to similar accidents?

Can't say I've heard this one before. I've been rearended a couple time, but always at very low MPH. Keep us posted on any developments.

What has been done to your brake system since then? Have you changed pads? changed rotors? re-bled the brake fluid?

New pads and bled system on the 2006. Nothing on the 2007.

hmm ... maybe they bent the mounting brackets from braking hard while being pushed.

Odd. When you re-bled the brakes, did the master cylinder drain out completely (bad)?

could also be an ABS problem .... losing pressure when it should be pulsing.

I didn't do it. Tejas Toyota did my brakes last. Which was draining the fluid and putting in new brake fluid. New pads. Just the front though.

Wouldn't the ABS light come on?

just major glaze either on ur pads or ur disc/rotors..i wouldnt think it would be a manufature defect because ur breaks were being pushed to its limit. (ur car 20-40mph and ur wife's car 30-50mph) imagine the pounds of force its puttin on the breaks? well this is from what i understand.. (to add- maybe toyota didnt do a good job..not sayin all toyota shops are like that..)

the only defects ive heard from this thread and other websites bout tc's are its air bags not being deployed at most times..

well hopfully they find a problem.. and not just replace the pads and rotors or taking their sweet time on it at the toyota shop.. let us know what they find out..

It's something that should have been caught at the Tejas Toyota Collision Center when we brought the car in to get repaired. That's the bottom line.

They deffinatley should have noticed something like that during the final test drive.

Well, it could be the rear brake pads too... and if the lines weren't bled properly, that could be part of it as well.

I'll be calling them in about an hour to schedule the appointment (they are suppose to be calling me back).

I agree with the posts about the glazing, but that doesn't explain the grinding around turns. Something is physically damaged on both cars.

Wheel Bearing is the most likely culprit. Thats what the w3rd at the moment is.

The bumper-to-bumper warranty will fix my wife's.

As I had my front end replaced a year ago, it might fall under that as a warranty on the repair. Or it might be out of pocket. I don't know.

i'm gonna have to suspect that the wheel bearings are shot as well.. i've gotten into a minor incident and exhibited the same symptoms and it was indeed the wheel bearing.

call around junkyards to get a replacement, cause a new one is gonna cost ya quite a bit.

Sounds about right .... it should have been picked up on the test drive and covered by the insurance co.
