Ive painted my wheels before, and I sanded them before painting, but it was way to much work with the sanding. I was wondering, could it be possible to use aircraft paint remover on wheels to take off the paint?

Clean the wheels and dry them. Use Adhesion Promoter after. You can also spray primer on top of that but it's not necessary. After that prep work, spray the rims as you normally would after sanding.

Good Luck!

so you know the duplicolor wheel paint sux. it goes on way to thick and has too much texture. the rim i was trying to fix after curbing needs to be sand blasted. I went ahead and upgraded to some aftermarkets. I was just looking for an excuse to do that. i think i am going to paint my stocks again and keep them for when/if i ever sell my car. so if you have good luck with your painting let me know. i was thinking about using the regular dupicolor and then some clear over top.

The wheel paint worked fine for me. Nice and smooth to the touch.

mine worked fine too and i used dupli high-heat resistant. Your painting skills must be on point for them to look good

i must have had a bad can cuz the paint never laid out smoothly, the flake in it would just build up like overspray does. it doesn't matter anyway now cuz the LAGUNAS are on their way!

EdgarG - There's no need to. Just use some adhesion promoter and spray color over it. Also use a white primer since you've already sprayed on color before.

Yup stop by your local auto store and go into the paint section. There's a can called Adhesion Promoter.

yeah, i shook the can for probably five minutes. this wasn't my first time with a rattle can, i have used the regular duplicolor many times on fiberglass boxes and stuff like that came out great. this is what i used duplicolor wheel paint

this is what i did...
i sanded down the curbed area of the rim with 100
i used glaze putty to fill the small scratches and sanded with 320
i used the high build primer saned with 600
used a tack cloth to remove any dust and then painted two light coats and then a medium coat like the can said with 10 minute wait between coats. idk what happened. the paint never really went on smoothly.

some parts of the rim look good

07sctc - did you clear coat afterwards? That's what made mine smooth

EdgarG - it makes it so the paint or primer will stick without sanding. Promoting adhesion.

no, i got the clear but didn't want to put it on cuz i the paint didn't turn out good. i think i am gonna sand it all off and try regular duplicolor but with the wheel clear coat. since ill have new rims i have plenty of time to mess with the stocks. i just need to get them right again incase i want to sell them or save them to put back on later if i get rid of the car, which i wont be doing for i while. do you think regular duplicolor with wheel clear will work?

I didn't use the wheel clear. It came out all milky and I didn't like that. I just picked up some regular clear from like Home Depot or Lowes and that worked fine. The last time I did it, I didn't even use wheel paint. It was just Duplicolor Gold Lacquer and some Krylon exterior clear coat. They came out just fine.

Lol the great thing about painting your stock rims is, it's cheap haha. If you want to go back to the original color, just pick up some silver wheel paint and it's almost the same as stock.

I'm almost done painting my aftermarkets, using VHT wheel paint and dupli-color clear with Bulldog adhesion promoter. Hopefully it works out! Update:
