Hey guys,

Well i'm Elvis (real name) I've been into the saturn community since 2004. I turbocharged my old Saturn (ION) there's youtube videos of the POS if you look up turbo ion.

Anyways, I have a 97 Saturn SC2 (Forged engine, built head t3/60-1 turbo....etc) and well the damn car is still unreliable, I have to work on the stupid thing everyday to get me to work. It's quick and all (guessing around 270WHP..yay ricer math)

I'm looking to upgrade since I need a DD but I would like it to be quick (oxymoron), I was wondering if anyone has the Turbonetics kit on their car? I see they use the Unichip for the 05-06 and then the AEM Piggyback for the 07+... for fuel management

I'm looking into the reliability point of view... Engine wise. I know it uses the 2.4 but I'm wondering about the stock internals. Are they forged? and are the rods thick? (The only 2.4 I4 i'm familiar with is the GM 2.4 w/ VVT-i)

I would like to know the insides of the engine before adding boost.

I'll take a video tonight of my current saturn and post it if you guys would like so show i'm not BS'ing lol

Thanks!!

The block of our 2AZFE is solid, but the moving internal parts will need to be replaced if you want to run high boost.

Our stock parts are not forged.

Aw that's lame, so I'm guessing Cast Aluminum pistons? lol hopefully I won't detonate (sp?)

So on a stock engine how much power have people been pushing before rods get bent? (assuming clutch is changed with a 6 puck if they make them for these cars)

Sorry if i'm coming off a little strong

most of the users here are running 7-10 psi of boost. You can go to 14 psi, but you'll most likely bend your rods at some point.

Depending on the turbo you can push up to about 10psi on stock internals and put down approx 300-320WHP. It all depends on the turbo size and the tuning.

Well what's the compression ratio on these engines? Cause with anything about 10psi should have a lower compression ratio (just for a buffer, it's not needed IMO as long as the tune is good)

I looking at t3/t4 (.70 cold) but I don't know if it would fit or what's up.

But as for tuning, what do you guys have? (besides piggybacks)

Compression is 9.6:1 - decent for F/I Apps. Look to Dezod.com or whyindustries.com for turbo kits unless you want to go with a custom one. Turbonetics kits tend to blow turbos.

I use the GReddy Emanage Ultimate (Piggyback). The tC is throttle-by-wire and nobody has unlocked the toyota ecu yet, so the only thing you can use is either Piggyback or Full standalone (AEM EMS).

here is what I looked up from the Internet

-
2,362 cc 2.4 liters in-line 4 front engine with 88.5 mm bore, 96.0 mm stroke, 9.8 compression ratio, double overhead cam, variable valve timing/camshaft and four valves per cylinder 2AZ-FE
-
Unleaded fuel 87
-
Multi-point injection fuel system
-
14.5 gallon main unleaded fuel tank 12.1
-
Power: 120 kW , 161 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm; 162 ft lb , 220 Nm @ 4,000 rpm

wow the turbonetics kit comes with bad turbos? ew. lol

For the AEM EMS, do they come with a plug and play harness or will I have to wire every damn wire up (ign module, injectors...etc)

Oh right - they raised up the compression on the '07+ engines. The '05-06 have 9.6 compression ratio..

3 of the turbonetics owners I know have had blown turbos.. not due to tuning or misuse either. As for the AEM EMS, I'm not sure how the wiring goes. I think most likely you will have to do the wiring yourself. The AEM F/IC and GReddy Emanage piggybacks do have PnP harnesses.

Did they really? I never heard that...What are `07+ 2AZ's running for compression?

Remember - the '05-06 tC was making 160HP using the OLD SAE standard. They changed the way Toyota rated HP in cars so in order to keep the same numbers, Toyota bumped the compression up to 9.8. That's why stock '07+ tC's dyno higher than '05-06.
