SqMK Reg'd: Dec 31, 1969 Ultimate Window Washer	Hey girls and guys, A few months ago, I purchased a new server to run CSTC and had moved it over to a local datacenter for easy physical access and cheaper bills. That server has been neglected a bit and I haven't quite had the time to move CSTC over there. Well, the time to move the site is about here. Our current data center we are renting servers from is jacking up their prices, which means cutting into my wallet even more. This only gives me more reason to quickly move CSTC over to that new server. So, what are the benefits of this new server? List: ---- - I personally own the new server. - The new server is helluva lot faster than the current one the site is on. - I am able to upgrade the server. More ram when we need it. More drive space when we need it. - If something happens to the server, I can drive over to the datacenter and fix stuff. - The server can be moved to a newer datacenter if the current one flops or something. I plan on moving the site over in steps within the week or so. While this is happening, some features will be disabled. This pretty much includes profile, gallery, and ride image uploads. However, this downtime in image uploads would last about a day or two. The first step is to move our database, search, memory caching server to the newer server and access those servers from this one. This will result in a slightly slower site since connections are made to another server. The second step is to copy all of our images and ~~existing frameworks / files~~ over to the new server, and flip the DNS on our image / css / js / media domains. All image upload activity will be disabled temporarily. The third step would be to flip the dns on the main domain (clubsciontc.com) to point to the new server, as well as enable image uploads again. Users whose DNS still points to the old server won't be able to upload new images, but will be able to see new images that are uploaded by users whose DNS points to the new server. The final step would be to shut down the old server. This includes migrating our database and moving / generating all of the uploaded images and pointing domains over to the new server. Things may get a little hectic tomorrow! A new message at the top of CSTC will tell you which server you are on. Once that message is green, you'll know whether or not you are on the newer server.
