I had a request to make lighting effects, so I made this post public.

my first example will be HID on a tuner car shown here:

^nothing special yet

^then you select the area

^fill with magic goodness in a normal layer start with the whitest color

^copy that layer many times by hitting control-j 4 layers is a good start for a basic glare

leave the first layer untouched, this will be the soul of your light source and should stay sharp

when you progress to other layers, gradually use the Gaussian Blue and you'll have a nice halo of glare with a focused center

^want some color? repeat the same steps with color and turn them into screen layers so you have a nice translucent color

there is no limit to how many layers you want to add or blur, mess with it until you get the effect you want

^one headlight final result

on to the next subject

^a simple candle or intense candle of mystery? I think it's a magic candle of mystery

^selected and filled with intense color whiteness

^added layers of color and layers of blurred goodness

^wicked

to sum it up

select your intense light center with lasso or polygon or custom shape or brush

fill it in on a separate layer then multiply it with control +J to copy the exact shape over and over

select layers and blur them with the blur tool of your choice

vary your blur in steps for the most realistic effect

repeat with colors for special effects

TIP
study photos of light sources like flash lights and sundowns to mimic the way light glares
