I would love to know how they did that without spring compressor

Anyone know how much the bump stop needs to be cut for Megan Racing springs?

cut it in half for s-techs, so that would probably be fine.

Even better question. WHY do the bump stops need to be cut, and will it do any harm for me to overcut/undercut? Also, are these on front and rear, or front only? Im doing the installation in about 3 days, so trying to get mentally prepared for this haha.

cutting the bump stop will give you more room for travel of the shock. when doing the s-techs i cut both front and rear in half. if you dont cut them you will not have much travel from the lowered ride height.

yeah there could be more harm done to shocks if you bottom them out really badly on a pothole or something, but the springs you are gonna use arent as low as the s-techs. i put almost 30k on my stocks with s-techs before i noticed any wear on my shocks. i need to replace them now.

Hopefully with the Megans being a little higher, I can get more mileage out of them. I think Ill go with a little less than half for the Megans.

you may not want to mess with them at all. if you find that you are bottoming out you can always go back later and cut them.

you may wanna pm andino and ask his opinion, he's done alot and may have a more informed suggestion on those particular springs.

when i put on my ground control adjustables i cut the halves in half again. so i only have 1/4 of the original, but no problems except for the front left shock. it wore out most likely from the extra weight of the driver on that side since i usually ride alone rather than bottoming out.

Well the Megans arent TOO much higher than the S-techs. It would probably be a waste of time to find out I needed to go back and do it, so might as well do it the first time. Andy, what do you think?

Thank you very much for this DIY. It helped a ton. I slammed my tC today in 7 hours. I am no where near a mechanicly inclined person, and I took my time, but damn was it worth it. The only thing I would like to note about the DIY is that there is nothing saying to remove the windshield wipers. Also, on the bump stop photos, there is nothing saying whether to leave the black plastic piece on or to just remove it completely.

I just put my megan racing lowering springs in today and have noticed a popping noise coming from the rear of my car when I am going over the speed bumps at my apartment, has anyone else had this happen in the tc, and possible fixes??????

super easy installation guys!!!
even if you're not mechanically inclined, don't be afraid to do this one. just take your time and mark everything so it goes in the same way it came out. i saw a couple ppl say that you need to remove your windshield wipers. you do not. just take off all the plastic clips from the cowl and you'll have enough room to fit a wrench under it...

It's pretty easy to uncompress the spring without using a spring compressor.

You place a jack underneath and have the floor jack keep the suspension up while you loosen the center bolt. Then after that, all the tension is being held up by the jack, and then to decompress it, slowly lower the jack and it'll decompress the spring without using a compressor.

Very good write up. I was a little confused at times but I got it and it saved me over $400 from a shop doing it. I called all over and they wanted to charge me $300 just to do my front springs lol. Its not hard to do, but it does take time.

depends on where u go? i've seen pricing from $100 all the way up to $400! the shop i used to work at would probably charge $175 give or take...

but seriously, do it yourself dude...
rent the strut compressor from autozone. it's 40 bucks, but you'll get the $$ back when you return it. jack stands are about $20 for a pair.

think about all the extra stuff you can buy with the money you save!

Hmmm, it could be the fact that we dont have the rubber silencers on our springs that come with s-techs and stuff. Theres a little rubber surrounding that comes on them and helps reduce spring noise. The new springs WILL make some noise, but nothing to worry about, you are ok. Just drive slow over the bumps man, you have to be carefull with your stuff now that your car is slammed. If you hit a speed bump too fast, you are in for a rough ride.

We used a spring compressor to remove the stock springs and then the rear hotchkis spring coils are too tight to fit compressors between. So, we put the strut assembly with the spring on it loosely and had frankryzzo stand on the axel to provide room for the strut to slip in and have the car naturally compress the spring. Then once it was in web just bolted it all back in.
